3.0 out of 5 stars Some clarification
First off, all the other reviews posted here are factually *wrong.* This soundtrack does not include "Duvet," the song from the main title sequence. That song is available in a remixed version on the Cyberia remix record, and the original version is on "Twilight" by Boa.

The material on this soundtrack is incidental music from the show itself,...

5.0 out of 5 stars Cyberia Mix - Full 12 Songs Version, June 3, 2001
"Cyberia Mix" could have come straight from the playlist at Club Cyberia in the anime "Serial Experiments Lain." There is a distinct trance/techno feel to the music, reminiscent of the dark, cyberpunk themes of "Lain."

The first song, "'s'peEd" is undoubtably the most danceable. It makes up with relentless bass and electronically enhanced lyrics what it lacks in melody.

The second song, a remix of "Duvet," by the British band Boa, is a definite break from the rest of the CD. It is without a doubt hauntingly beautiful, and remarkably addictive. Jasmine Rodger's sweet, clear voice is easy to sing along with. Although the remix only slightly changes the song, it is preferable to the original.

The third song is this reviewer's favorite: "professed intention and real intention." However, some listeners may object to its simplicty: it consists merely of one shrill lyric forcefully repeated over a drum track.

The seventh song, "prayer," is another delicious track. It begins with a foot-tapping beat, moves to fast rap, and fades to whispered, hypnotic lyrics, all over a fascinating melody.

Song ten, "INFANiTy world," is another odd but lovely song. Its melody is uninteresting - its strength lies instead in its lyrics: poetry spoken in uninflected, heavily accented English. A strangely catchy sung chorus rounds out the eerie sound.

The last track on the CD is also the most disappointing: another version of "Duvet." Shorter than the original, but not enhanced by a remix, this track is sure to disappoint even the most die-hard Boa fan.

All in all, "Cyberia Mix" is a great addition to any anime fan's collection, but especially perfect for fans of both "Lain" and techno/trance/dance music. In conclusion, this CD is not only a reflection of the atmosphere of the show, but also worthwhile music that's sure to please.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just as Weird as the Anime, Yet Stil Danceable :-), February 4, 2002
Even after multiple viewings, the instant-classic anime series Serial Experiments Lain is so incredibly strange and hard to follow that it makes The Matrix seem incredibly straightforward. The oddity of the anime series comes from its mix of temporality, realms, and music. and this CD certainly embodies all three (not just the music) in sixty minutes of virtually non-stop intoxication.

"Duvet" is one of the most sought-after songs by diehard anime otaku, and this incredible CD presents both the TV version (as the final track) and a hauntingly beautiful remix (as Track 2). The remix of "Duvet" is itself more than worth the price of the CD!!! The other techno-based songs are also incredible, especially "Professed Intention and Real Intention" and "INFANiTy World."

Those who really enjoyed the Club Cyberia scenes in Serial Experiments Lain will especially find this CD a rare find. The music on this CD sounds exactly like being in Club Cyberia - minus the blood :-) Playing this CD at any gathering of otaku is CERTAIN to provoke some interesting commentaries concerning the music and the anime series itself.

4.0 out of 5 stars IT'S A SINGLE !!!!, November 29, 2005

Please read the item description closely, and you will see this is a CD SINGLE! It's a mini-disk containing only two songs. "Duvet" is beautiful of course, and the other song ("Deeply", I think) is pretty catchy too. However, spending $15 for two songs is beyond what most people can justify.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great opening song, December 30, 2000

This is a great opening song for the anime series Lain. The song is sung beautifully by Boa. I would recomend it greatly. If you like this song you're sure to like other songs by Boa like "And Then She Kissed Her".

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Song!, December 30, 2000
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Duvet (Audio CD)
I'm a fan of the show Serial Experiments Lain (the anime cartoon) and I must say this is a nice opening song for it. Boa sings a beautiful song with a sort of sweet mellow tune to it, and yet it has a sort of freakish flow. It just fits in great with the show. After listening to it a couple of times you find yourself singing it over and over again because of the great tune. If you like artists like Dido or a beautiful not too loud, not annoying, and sweet gentle voice you'll like this single. All in all it's worth your money and a must buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review of Lain music in general, December 30, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Duvet (Audio CD)
Anything having to do with Serial Experements Lain has a gothic/trance feeling to it. Duvet is a dark song, but it's very VERY good. The Cyberia Mix Lain CD, a soundtrack, is all techno music and it's incredable! Theres so much feeling put into it, much more then most techno I've listened to, and the song Duvet has a similer feeling, although much slower. It still carries a deep understanding. Even if it is about not understanding. ^^

4.0 out of 5 stars Great songs, but steep price for just two tracks., June 22, 2006

For those of you who have seen Serial Experiment: Lain, this CD contains the song from the opening credits to the series (Duvet). It's a fabulous song done by Engish music group Boa (not to be confused with Korean J-Pop artist BoA). Probably one of the best sounding contemporary rock songs I can think of. There is another song on this CD called Deeply, also from Boa. This song has more of a hard edge to it with Jasmine (the lead singer) putting a little more passion into her voice. Of the two songs Duvet is still my favorite, but Deeply is definitely a well done song.

Now for the bad news. For a full-priced CD all you get are two songs. No remixes. No video files. Just two songs. For most other bands that would be enough to say forget about it. However these songs were included on only two albums: Twilight (released domestically) and Race of a Thousand Camels (released in Japan). These albums are no longer distributed and are very hard to find, which makes Duvet also hard to find.

So in the end you have to ask yourself how bad do you want that one song from Lain, plus another good song from the band? Personally I wouldn't pay the full list price for just the two songs. Then again I'm one of the lucky ones that has a copy of Twilight. Personally I would pass this one up and look for another Lain soundtrack that has this song in it. The Lain Cyberia Mix import version has the TV cut of the song as well as a remix and several other dancey tracks (be forewarned, the domestic release doesn't have Duvet).

5.0 out of 5 stars Some more Clarification--, May 30, 2003

Ignoring one of the posts (since all of the songs he mentions are not even on this cd), if you are looking for a cd with a good mix of songs, this would be it (of course being that you have watched Lain). This cd does include the TV version of Duvet (the theme song to Lain) as well as a remixed version that rocks. I love every one of these songs and anytime I listen to one song... i have to listen to the rest. One of my top favorite cds ever.

If you loved the opening song to the Lain series, get this single. It has that song, what more do you need?

5.0 out of 5 stars Present time, Present place, February 24, 2001
This review is from: Duvet (Audio CD)
For me, BOA came from right out of the blue. I had never heard of them, or heard anything by them until I watched the LAIN series on DVD. And I have to admit, from the very first moment the theme song opened, I was captivated by both the music and the voice of Jasmine Rodgers - not only was it both a complex and easy to listen to song (almost too easy) - but is so radio friendly that it could easily place in the top ten here in America. An excellent theme song for LAIN, and a excellent song in it's own right. This version is the CD SINGLE (a mini CD no less), and comes in a slim rectangle case which features an original concept artwork for the series on the cover, plus features a second single - DEEPLY, which is is like night and day with DUVET - but an excellent song as well (in fact, there is a hint of BLONDIE underneath DEEPLY which hooks you in very quickly). Lyrics for each song are in the inside in both english and japanese. If you think throwing down over twelve dollars for a CD single is too much - remember it is an import and it's unique - and to boot, it's a beautiful song. A worthy addition to any collection.
