5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting book, worth the time!
I bought this book out of curiosity to bide time in between missions while deployed...I have to say I wanted to read the entire book in one sitting. Each story is well written with facts that aren't mentioned in the movies. This book also reveals serial killers I haven't heard of. It definitely goes into their minds & almost makes you feel as if you're there at the crime...

3.0 out of 5 stars good basis, poor writing
This book covers a wide range of serial killers and mass murderers and is worth a read for a basic introduction of the stories behind these horrific crimes. A note, however: the book is poorly written and poorly edited. It reads like a 7th grade essay. The stories do not always flow or provide the reader with adequate information. The format is not consistent. There are...

4.0 out of 5 stars brief synopsis but uncommon stories, February 5, 2010
This review is from: Serial Killers and Mass Murderers: Profiles of the World's Most Barbaric Criminals (Paperback)
This book is all about murderers who have several victims; it covers the tales of 17 cases. Nigel Cawthorne includes some of the less common, or less known killers in his writing. He devotes 10-20 pages per case, so if you are looking for information that is more comprehensive, this may not be the book for you. Overall, I felt that this was a good read that covered the basics of each case.

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining read, August 19, 2008

This book was very entertaining. The chapters were well written and to the point. You could tell the author was very educated on the subject he was writing about, but didn't run on and on about it. It just never ceases to amaze me, the depravity and madness that sometimes occurs in the minds of humans. Some of these murderers just seemed to become INHUMAN after you read of their crimes!
Very good, short and to the point book for true crime buffs!

3.0 out of 5 stars Very Decent Read, August 13, 2011
This review is from: Serial Killers and Mass Murderers: Profiles of the World's Most Barbaric Criminals (Paperback)
This is a good little book, mostly for beginners, for people who don't read a lot of books about True Crime or Serial Killers. If like me you buy a lot of books on the subject then you won't learn anything that you don't already know, the author spend only 10 to 20 pages on each cases and it's basically informations you can find in other books or on the internet. However the book is very well written and features a solid list of cases, from Bundy to Zodiac, from Dahmer to the terrible events of Columbine. This is a decent read and a good way for beginners to start reading about Serial Killers and Unsolved murder cases.

3.0 out of 5 stars More of a simple re-telling, less of the behavioral analysis I'd hoped for., April 22, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Serial Killers and Mass Murderers: Profiles of the World's Most Barbaric Criminals (Paperback)
This book does serve a purpose: it's a basic index of various serial killers, providing brief back-stories, crime details, and the consequences of the offenders' actions. The crimes are told in step-by-step chronology, and the information is presented in such elementary, easy-to-read fashion that's so simple it actually gets annoying after a while--unless, of course, this is what you prefer.

I would like to have seen more behavioral analysis as to WHY these people were the way they were, but was only reminded that I should've gone with a book by Vronsky instead. Nevertheless, I still appreciate the basic knowledge this book provided.

Most of the serial killers that were mentioned in this book, have already been highly publicized so it wasn't a lot of new information. It was a very fast read but I didn't like the style of writing for some reason. There wasn't a lot of depth to the book but some of the information that the author mentioned was interesting. It was just ok.

3.0 out of 5 stars Could Have Used Wikipedia, February 5, 2010

While this book is straight-forward and easy to read I found that I didn't gain any kind of insight or detail I could not have accessed Online for myself. If you're looking for a book that takes you deep into the crimes and minds of serial killers, on a more psychological level, then this book is not for you. However, it is a great resource for the newbie.
