3.0 out of 5 stars Average but Expected More Insight, June 21, 2000
This isn't the first A&E documentary on Serial Killers I've seen and unfortunately it wasn't as informative as I expected. Having to view the material for a college criminolgy course, I was disappointed that much of the info [and even more so the images} were just repeats of what local news stations aired when the horror was unfolding before our nation's eyes. I was hoping this film would delve deep enough to bring us more info.

Of course the music adds the eeriness needed for a story like Dahmer's but hopefully A&E's future documentaries will be more substantive.

3.0 out of 5 stars Informative But Lacking, June 20, 2000
This review is from: Serial Killers, Profiling the Criminal Mind, Vol. 03: John Wayne Gacy [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I wanted to view this documentary as a result of reading author Jason Moss's book, THE LAST VICTIM, which focused mainly on the serial killer, J.W. Gacy. I expected more, but got much less.

This is an A&E original documentary which uses the same stale images frame after frame, sometimes boring the viewer with facts that really don't expose much of what made this psychotic KILLER CLOWN tick.

I was disappointed I purchased this tape rather than just renting it as I doubt I'd pass it on to others interested in the subject of true crime. There are other more informative and well done documentaries out there than this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Repetitive Coverage, June 24, 2000
This review is from: Serial Killers, Profiling the Criminal Mind, Vol. 03: John Wayne Gacy [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I bought this video after reading a book by author Jason Moss entitled THE LAST VICTIM which explored the complexities of the notorious CLOWN KILLER a.k.a. JW Gacy. What I was disappointed in was that this documentary by A&E repeats the same clips throughout the entire piece and the narration is nothing we haven't heard in the news. I was hoping to learn what the media had not told us, as this was an optional assignment for a college criminology class, and I was hopeful that it would shed light on the sickness that was John Gacy. This video fell far short and I should have saved my money.
