1.0 out of 5 stars ROLLED THE DICE.......SNAKE EYES
WELL NO LUCK FOR ME WITH THIS PRODUCT. I ASSEMBLE MY OWN COMPUTERS, SET THIS DEVICE CORRECTLY, THE COMPUTER RECOGNIZES THE DRIVE AND INSTALLS THE OS BUT THEN THE MBR IS CORRUPTED. MY GUESS IS THIS DEVICE MAY WORK BETTER FOR SECONDARY DRIVES THAT DO NOT CONTAIN THE OPERATING SYSTEM.

This converter does not work for Blu ray drives. BIOS and Vista Ultimate immediately recognized it, but when I put in a Blu ray movie it NEVER played!

Running this adapter on an Intel D945GCLF2 with a Cavalry 64GB SSD. When using 80 conductor IDE cables (ATA-100 on my board), I experienced severe data read issues. As soon as I switched to a UDMA-33 cable (40 conductor), the drive reads were fine. This adapter is rated at ATA-100/ATA-133, but don't you believe it! That said, even at UDMA-33, performance is acceptable, and I purposely went for the cheap adapter & SSD drive. BTW, the SSD drive performed marvelously on a SATA port - Windows Storage Server 2008 desktop loaded in just under 4 seconds after reboot and logon... =0

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not ever buy this product, May 30, 2009
This review is from: Serial ATA (SATA) to Sabrent IDE Ultra ATA-100/133 Port Mini Converter (Personal Computers)
Destroy my 500GB hard disk. Cannot recognize a few 250GB hard disks. For the hard disk that it can recognize, the transfer rate is very slow. The Amazon picture is different from what I received. The one I received is made in China. I bought from [...] the same Sabrent SBT-STDB in 2006 which has the same picture as on Amazon and it is made in Taiwan. It works like a charm with all my 250GB, 500GB and 1TB SATA hard disk. I order it despite others' negative comments because I see the same picture as the one I have and have good experience with it. But I received a different product which is made in China and which not only does not work but destroyed my hard disk with all its data. Highly recommend not buying this product.

1.0 out of 5 stars Didn't work for me either, June 19, 2008
This review is from: Serial ATA (SATA) to Sabrent IDE Ultra ATA-100/133 Port Mini Converter (Personal Computers)
Because this handy little gizmo was on sale for $5 for a while, and because I wanted to buy a new internal 500 GB drive with less planned obsolescence than my current IDE drives, and because my dual G4 PowerMac has no built in SATA, I figured this would be just the thing...

After an hour of fiddling with every setting there is, I just can't get it to work.

The documentation is truly horrible, even though there is only one Master/Slave jumper (and I assume Cable Select if neither is jumped?). The power cable that came with it was broken and needed to be re-soldered.

But for $5 with free shipping, I had to try it. Better luck to you if you give it a shot.

I bought the adapter to use on a Seagate 7200.9 SATA 200G disk installed in a Dell Dimension 4550 with an Ultra ATA 100/133 controller. The Seagate disk was not the boot disk. On boot, the Windows XP screen would show, followed by a completely dark screen for a couple of minutes, followed by a Blue Screen of Death with a hardware error. Fortunately, the kit contained a SATA data cable (not sure why), so I installed the Seagate drive in a different computer on my LAN that had a SATA controller.

just like another reviewer I also bought this when the price was less than $10. There's not a great deal to say about this item: Either it works or it doesn't. For me it did! If you expect documentation with this then perhaps you don't know what this gadget does and should avoid it. Naturally whether it works or not depends on several factors including the device types and brands you are connecting as well as other factors such as firmware/software and even cables that are used. Unfortunately none of the adapters on sale (anywhere) can tell you whether or not a particular converter will work for your particular setup. Take a punt; Try it and see ...

I bought the wrong hard drive for my computer. This handy little device did the trick. If you have any experience at all you should have no problem installing.

OK, I admit, I am not a computer genius. I needed a second hard drive. I got careless when I ordered from an online discounter and accidently purchased a sata hard drive instead of an IDE drive. Instead of going through the hassle and costs of returning the sata drive and getting another IDE, I purchased this device. Documentation is very poor, there are no instructions, just a list of specifications. But the device looks fairly self-explanatory: Plug the adapter in, hook up the power and IDE cable and away you go. There is one jumper that is labled M and S. So I assume that is master/slave. I set the jumper to S and fired the computer up. Upon booting I got the message "insert system disk". Hmmmm, did I leave a power cable unplugged? Nope. I then tried multiple configurations and couldn't get the computer to boot. Removing the entire sata disk and installing a windows disk I found that my original drive was now showing that it was unpartitioned. Ouch!

Maybe you geeks can see where the mistake was made. I can't. Can these devices be used to run a slave drive, I thought so but don't know for sure. But something BAD happened that will take me hours to correct. Twenty dollars poorer and three hours later, I'm much worse off than when I started. Good luck with your installation!
