This concise, yet complete book is a great way to learn about this new technology, very likely to dominate storage interface to HDDs. It is a great substitute for going through the actual specs, and the authors have a wonderful job of presenting the material to the novice. It is also a wonderful peek into other serial interconnect technologies.

In our group it got a name of a "Pardon Book". More then 30% is academic talks about why SATA is good. Another 30% is a discussions about why we couldn't do that better then it is right now.And a remaining part is actually about SATA. Lot's of important details are missing and I have to "learn it on my back", and by annoying LeCroy support with a stupid questions. Many Thanks to them.
In any case I would like to agree with storagetechie's post. concise book - agree complete book - do not agree, see above. a great way to learn about this new technology - agree, especialy becuase authors constanlty compare SATA to PATA and other technologies. By learing the comparisions it is much easier to understand "the mind" of SATA Standart Group. It is a great substitute for going through the actual specs - agree. The SATA spec is not an easy reading. However this book can not fully substitute SATA spec - lot's of details are missing. From the other side it is much easier to search for those details in the spec after reading this book. The authors have a wonderful job of presenting the material to the novice. - Hmm let's say "a novice" should have a background in the serial communicaiton. Summing up: Now I wish to try a SATA Storage Technology: Serial ATA by Don Anderso |
