A funky surprise from Brazil,
By DJ Joe Sixpack (...in Middle America) - See all my reviews (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER)
This review is from: Serie 2 Em 1 (Audio CD)
This disc reissues two early albums by this popular '70s pop duo, including their fab '71 debut, "Mudei De Idea." Although ACarlos & Jocafi are best known as soft-pop crooners, this first album should make a few jaws drop -- several tracks on here contain some of the heaviest, dirtiest funk music ever to come out of Brazil, fuzz-heavy electric guitarfests like "Kabaluerê" which bring the house down in an Isley Brothers-like fashion. Fans of Brazilian soul and funk should check this out. The second album ("Definativamente," from 1974) is pretty sappy, and much less fun. Still, this bargain-priced reissue is MORE than worth it just for those few funky tracks.
