Try to imagine the movie City Of God converted to samba. The result is the finest samba old school from Brasil! The style called "partido alto" (high party) is the most respected samba style over here and during the last years has became an huge fever among the youngest generations. It's totally different from the samba played by the schools on the avenues during the Carnival. It's the authentic samba from the ghettos, represented by traditional names like Bezerra da Silva, Dicró, Moreira da Silva, Zeca Pagodinho, Almir Guineto and others. Bezerra's style really could be considered a sort of "gangsta samba". He sings some commom situations at the Rio de Janeiro "favelas" but with a cool, creative and quite funny slang. Call your friends to a barbecue, listen to the songs "Malandragem Da Um Tempo", "A Semente" (the seed), "Safado é Safado Mesmo", "Defunto Caguete", "Overdose de Cocada", "Sequestraram Minha Sogra", "Colina Maldita" and get in touch with the "malandro way of life". But don't forget: be smart 'cause the "men" are on your back!

Samba singer Bezerra Da Silva is known as a master of the "malandro" (bad guy) genre, samba's equivalent of American gangsta rap. I can't vouch for the lyrics, but the musical content on this best-of disc is all top-notch. It's great stuff, full of slinky cavaquinho mandolins, cheery-sounding vocal choruses, and gorgeous, sleek melodic production. I love the way this music sounds & would definitely recommend this record.
