5.0 out of 5 stars Touches the heart, October 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Serie Platino - 20 Exitos (Audio CD)
I first heard them when I was 14yrs (1964) at a friends. His father made classical guitars as a hobby. My friend and I where of course Beatle fans but we loved Los Indios Tabarajas also. In fact we both learned to play classical guitar by listening to their music. Such talent!!!. I wish I could have seem in concert. Well this album represents very much the music that touched our hearts and continues to touch everyone else's that I introduce this music to no matter how young or old. Even my son is a fan of them, I hope to see more of their CD's in the future cause I wore out all of my LP's

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Beautiful Guitar Music, December 29, 2003

This review is from: Serie Platino - 20 Exitos (Audio CD)
I have been playing guitar for over 35 years and began purchasing LP's by Los Indios Tabajaras (LIT) around 30 years ago. About five years ago, after the LP's started wearing out and CD's became popular, I got on the internet and purchased Serie Platino and Maria Elena/Always In My Heart through CDNow. I recommend Serie Platino highly, primarily because it contains "Penelope." For anyone who does not have the LIT version of Penelope and is trying to decide which of many CD's by LIT to buy first, I would strongly recommend picking a CD containing Penelope. In my opinion, it is probably one of the most beautiful, melodic songs ever played on guitar. I have sat and listened to it over and over on many occasions. Although there are several great songs on the CD, it is worth purchasing for Penelope alone.
I am now looking for a CD version of their "Casual Classics", but don't believe it is available, at least yet.

AS A PROFESSIONAL MUSICIAN MYSELF,I HAVE BEEN A FOLLOWER OF THIS DUO IN PARTICULAR BECAUSE THEY STANDOUT FROM THE ALSO RAN INMITADORS.THEIR CRISP AND MELLOW STYLE IS WELL ABOVE ANYTHING I HAVE HEARD IN MY FORTY FIVE YEARS AS A PERFORMER .THE PRODUCTION OF (CASUALLY CLASSIC R.C.A.)ALBUM IN THE 1966 IS A SUPERB COLLECTION OF THE FINEST DUET OF STRINGS EVER RECORDED. I LOST THIS L.P. YEARS AGO AND I AM WILLING TO PAY YOUR PRICE IF YOU CAN FIND IN YOUR IN YOUR ARCHIVES...........

5.0 out of 5 stars The greatest of Tabajars' guitar playing..., April 25, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Serie Platino - 20 Exitos (Audio CD)
I first heard this collection as a kid in late 60's in SriLanka, and ever since I came to US I have been looking for this. In this CD, Tabajars play many popular tunes such as Amapola, Amor, Frenesi, and Perfidia in Latin-American style. It also contains a few classical pieces as ValsEn Do Sostinido (Chipin). There is no words to describe the recording and sound quality- you hear only two or three guitars with the bass, and Tabjars' will rock the place- great for Latin-American dancing!

The last time I heard Los Indios Tabajaras was 20 years ago. Many people do not know, they started with an old guitar they found. Their beautiful Music speaks volumes, of what we can accomplish in life. It's a shame, you don't Advertise their music more. It's Music for lovers and romantics. Elena

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Collection by Two Masters of the Guitar, October 8, 1998

This review is from: Serie Platino - 20 Exitos (Audio CD)
known primarily for their huge hit Maria Elena, these two brothers from the jungles of Brazil displayed a virtuosity and a passion for the Classic Spanish Guitar that has since remained unequalled. This Collection of 20 cuts is taken from the more than 30 albums which have not been re-issued on CD. It gives the listener a cross-section of their brilliant work. The jewel of the complilation is "Vals En Do Sustenido", actually a Valse by Chopin. listen to this cut. You will not believe your ears.

The story of the Lima brothers would be amazing in itself but their music only adds to what must be the greatest guitar album ever. Listen and be amazed.

Los Indios Tabajaras is a excellent act started by two brothers in the 1940s. Natalicio and Antenor Lima are marvelous musicians. These brothers from northern Brazil make guitars into a powerful, soulful, and exciting instrument.

This recording is instrumental, and provides clear, lightly vibrating energetic guitar. From the beginning of the CD the performance provides full sound with precise coordination between both guitars, the strings and drums. The most popular song, Maria Elena, is exceptional. Another song, based upon "stardust" is spectacular. Some of their tunes are Indian folk music. On several songs the guitars play simultaneously, then duel, blend their sound, harmonize, and together expand the melody. Continually changing, it is a joy to listen.

Los Indios Tabajaras derived their name from their costumes. They often dressed in South American ceremonial Indian costumes. They transcribed, for guitar, classical violin and piano music. They count Rimsky-Korsakoff and Chopin among their influences.

I highly recommend this music. My wife and I sponsor a musical scholarship for guitar at our alma mater. Be assured our students will hear these brothers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Serie Platino: 20 Exitos, June 19, 2008

This review is from: Serie Platino - 20 Exitos (Audio CD)
I had never heard of Los Indios Tabajaras, but I love guitar music. After reading everyone's reviews and listening to song samples, I purchased "Serie Platino: 20 Exitos" and "Maria Elena/Always in My Heart." After listening to these albums, I decided to purchase "Best of Los Indios Tabajaras." I love them all, and although many of the songs are repeated on the other albums, I can't get enough of all three of these albums.
--- Serie Platino: 20 Exitos: This album of all instrumental and very relaxing, beautiful music, and at this low price, it is a real bargain. If you are looking for total relaxation - this is the album for you. Bare bones CD insert - no additional information.
--- Maria Elena/Always in My Heart: This album makes my list of favorites. It is a mix of singing and instrumental. Some songs are sweet and soothing, others are much livelier. If you want to experience a variety of music - this is the album for you. Also, the CD insert gives interesting background information on "Los Indios Tabajaras."
--- Best of Los Indios Tabajaras ($35.99): I debated about the price, but I have no regrets. My favorite songs on this album are "El Condor Pasa", "Green Eyes", and "Angelitos Negros." For your information, the CD insert lists the songs in both English and Japanese; however, the rest of the insert is in Japanese.
