HEAVENLY.....MUSIC OF THE SAINTS,

I have never heard of this group before last night (8/18). I saw them open for Tom Petty in San Diego and they were awesome. To see men that posess such a Love for Jesus inspires me. The music is wonderful and boy can they hold a note, and the vocal range is phenomenol. God Bless these brothers in Christ Jesus.

Great album from early 50's.
Lead vocal of Clarence Fountain is great, but there are other great vocalist Exkano and Warren - gruff tenors Lewis and Scott - gruff baritones. Majority from this material are alternative versions, but great. For me song highlights are Without The Help Of Jesus, Sit Down Servant - super version with Exkano, Precious Lord - longer then on original release album, Marching Up To Zion - for me better then on original release album, Swingin' On The Golden Gate - jazzy, Hallelujah, and two singles - Heaven On My Mind and I'm Going Through with great Fountain's tenor. Essential for all gospel fans.

This is a collection of early recordings by one of the greatest gospel vocal groups. Besides the founding members including Clarence Fountain, George Scott, Olice Thomas, and Johnny Fields, the album also features other singing preachers such as Rev. Samuel K. Lewis, Rev. Paul Exkano, Rev. George W. Warren, and Rev. Percell Perkins. It is rather surprising that these beautiful songs were recorded between 1952 and 1957 but never previously released with the exceptions of "Heaven on My Mind" and "I'm Going Through."
