About the Author

Don Collette grew up in Grafton, North Dakota. He is a retired U.S. Navy officer, an Ordained Bishop, Christian counselor and certified community service Chaplain. He and his wife Karen planted and pastored the Ocean Lakes Church of God in Virginia Beach, Va., Served as associate pastor at Emmanuel Christian Center in Va. Beach and Pastored Master's Heart Church of God in Vinemont Al. They are publisher and founders of Sermonsnacks.com, a Christian web-site. Don has attended Liberty University, Old Dominion University and Wallace State College. With studies in religion, business, technical education, clinical laboratory technology and criminal justice. They reside in rural Hanceville, Alabama.

Every minister has a ton of notes. There are certain verses we tend to turn to that help us counsel others. Don Collette took some of his favorite verses that he uses to teach and counsel and put them into his book, SERMONSNACKS. This delightful book serves as a quick reference source for anyone who counsels others, even those seeking guidance that may not have a minister to turn to.

There are nine main subjects here. Faith Building covers topics for when we need a closer walk with God. Pain Relieving for when we must deal with loss. Loneliness for when we forget that God is with us always. Work for when we find ourselves in a difficult situation at our job. Financial to help deal with money problems that face almost everyone from time to time. Family for when there is strife within the family. Marriage to help remind us of why we chose to marry and of the commitments we have made. Finally, Senior Snacks to help guide and comfort us as we mature.

The book is hardly all inclusive, but is a great starting point for where to turn when we need and forget to seek God's guidance. This is a book I will keep close by and will turn to often. This fellow Chaplain has put together a great book that I highly recommend.

I first reviewed this book as a newspaper reporter, and I must say it is a refreshing spin on the ordinary devotional book. So many of us long to make personal time with the Lord a priority, and yet a lot of us slip through the cracks.

"Sermonsnacks" is the perfect solution. There are several different types of snacks, everything from guidance on marriage to personal matters. You can find several devotionals that begin with a passage of Scripture and then Collette's thoughts on the Scripture. If you need a simple reminder of God and his love for you each day, "Sermonsnacks" more than does the trick. If offers the personal morsels of wisdom we all need!
