This dictionary was a severe disappointment. The serbo-croat to english part does not indicate the position of stress in the serbo-croat words, not to mention the different kinds of toned stresses. The english-croat part does contain phonetic transcripts, however, so the book might be of some use to serbs and croats who are studying english. They may consider that the handy size compensates for the rather small vocabulary given.

Albeit that there are not many dictionaries on the beautiful languages of Serbian and Croatian, this book is not complete. It occassionally does not distinguish between words that have variation in the two languages. Some words are out of date or not in current culture usage. But again, it is one of a very few resourses available on the language. It is a good reference, but not the last word on translation.

This is easily the most useful book around - cheap, fits in the pocket and has most of the important words you need. Does exactly what it promises. If you want more, I'm afraid you'll have to fork out almost three times as much for its nearest competitor - or else buy a home in the former Republic (!).

I am married to a native Serbian, and have been trying to learn Serbian over the past 14 years that I've known him. This book I thought would be a helpful resource, but it is not.

1. The words are outdated
2. The definitions are very short and simple without any usage examples, which can be confusing when a word has double meaning in english.
3. The words are a mix of Serbian and Croatian without any indication of which is Serbian and which is Croatian.

The third point was the biggest struggle for me because I was learning improper Serbian. This book is not useful at all, and I wish I could return it. Unfortunately, I cannot offer a better alternative because the Serbian language is just not that popular to get it on the Amazon sales list.

I was asked to buy this for a relative. I was expecting it to be some big deal but was disappointed when I received it. It is quite a brief work and I am unsure of how useful it could be.
