3.0 out of 5 stars For me, this didn't help much.
For me, this product didn't help much. In the end, frequent hamstring and piriformis stretches were more effective.

Your exact SI problem and solution may be different, so it may be worth a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of several I've tried, November 24, 2010
This review is from: New Serola Sacroiliac Belt (Misc.)
I was injured in a horseback riding accident two years ago and have had serious recurring SI problems ever since. I'm in my fourth go at physical therapy. I've also seen a chiropractor for months, had acupuncture, wear custom orthopedic inserts in my shoes, and sit on a Tempurpedic brand cushion at work, which all reduced my pain somewhat, but didn't help my joints stay in alignment. Treating professionals kept telling me that I really needed to wear an SI belt, but I kept buying SI belts that didn't help or were too uncomfortable to wear.

Finally, my current PT recommended this one. This is by far the best of several SI belts I've tried. Unlike many of them, it's easy to get tight, has some give to it so you still have full range of motion, isn't terribly bulky, and is reasonably comfortable. It also stays where I put it, which other belts didn't. It relieved my SI pain immediately and has helped to keep my hips/pelvis/SI in alignment between physical therapy sessions.

That said, if you wear it a lot or you have sensitive skin, you may need a layer of clothing to keep it from irritating your skin. I don't really view this as a problem--it doesn't have to be much of a layer, so tights/underwear/leggings are enough to do it. I imagine men's boxers would be too, but as I'm a woman, I couldn't tell you for sure. Although it is much smaller than a lot of belts on the market, it will show under a lot of clothes. And even when it doesn't really show, you often look heavier than you really are. And in all but the skinniest users, it will cause horrific muffin top. (My mother thought it was hilarious that her under 30 size 4 daughter has muffin top. I do not find it so amusing.) Fuller skirts hide it, but when I wear pants, I just wear the SI belt over the pants. I'd rather look injured than peculiarly lumpy.

So although I wish someone would hybridize an SI belt with Spanx, creating some kind of super smooth and supportive undergarment (or, better yet, that I didn't need an SI belt in the first place), this works wonders at preventing pain, keeping all my bones where they're meant to be, and is the most comfortable, least unpleasant way of finally arriving at pain-free SI joints.

4.0 out of 5 stars Provides stability and makes workouts pain free, March 6, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: New Serola Sacroiliac Belt (Misc.)
I've had SI problems for 8 years. When I finally found an orthepedic dr. who could correctly diagnose my problem I was thrilled! I had pain from my 3rd cervicle all the way to my left ankle (only affected one side). My SI joint was put back in place (not pleasant) as were the cervicles in my neck. I walked sideways for a while but physical therapy helped and my core was finally stable enough to provide the support I needed. After having a baby and starting a new running program the SI pain came back and I started searching onine for a solution. I got the belt this week and today I used it during a training session. I was suprised at how well it stayed in place even though I was moving and sweating so much. I was exhausted afterward, but I had NO pain in my lower back, knee, and ankle! It's amazing how well this belt works. The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 starts is because it wasn't very comfortable to wear while sitting. While I was on the floor stretching after my workout the belt was pinching the top of my leg. It may just be the way my body is shaped or putting on to tight, but that small amount of discomfort was worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE THIS BELT!!!, February 7, 2008
This review is from: New Serola Sacroiliac Belt (Misc.)
In the last few weeks I've been experiencing SERIOUS lower back pain. I went to the DR. who only prescribed, heat, muscle relaxers, pain pills and physical therapy. The next day,I told my daughter's pt about my back. She told me it was the SI joint and gave me this belt to try. MAN, what a difference. I can finally move around without being in agony!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The first real relief in four years!!, May 30, 2011
This review is from: New Serola Sacroiliac Belt (Misc.)
I've been through four years of hell, surgeons, and specialists, all of whom diagnosed a dysfunctional sacrum. NONE of them - not once, did they recommend this belt. I ordered this with expedited shipping, got it the next day, and immediately put it on. After two different positions I found the "sweet spot" and knew right away because that awful, hell-on-earth pain WENT AWAY! My normal reaction would have been boundless joy and relief. Instead, I was filled with a flood tide of bitterness toward all of the doctors who allowed me to lose so much of my life, while plying me with pain pills, physical rehab, etc. I was facing a sacral fusion when I went online and stumbled onto a mention of an s.i. belt. I logged on to Amazon, of course, and found several. I ordered this one, and another. I chose the Serola because it appeared to be made as well as the back brace I had worn after surgery. It turned out to be very well made, and a Godsend. I was down to parttime work, whenever I could make it in. I had lost my ability to sit and do the bills, sit and drive, ride in a car over 20 minutes, walk, hike, and live the life I love. Today is Memorial Day. I've had the belt since Friday at 11:30 am. I did the barbecuing today! I drove into town on errands! I cleaned up the dishes! What's next?? How about fulltime at work, hiking my beloved Truckee River, and whatever else! I'm living again! (Oh, did I forget to recommend that you buy one? Are you still on the fence? For god's sake, relief is available for less that $50 bucks! Get this thing!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Life Saver!, April 30, 2011
This review is from: New Serola Sacroiliac Belt (Misc.)
I have never reviewed a product on Amazon before, but I had to get on here and say how great this thing is. I am a professional dancer. I was injured during a performance 2 months ago, and since then the muscles in my lower back and sacrum have been in spasm. I have been in terrible pain-- unable to dance, walk, bend, sit, stand, or sleep comfortably. I haven't even been able to carry a bag containing anything heavier than my wallet and cellphone! Out of desperation, I finally ordered this belt last week, and it has totally changed everything for me. It supports my lower back, creates stability in my pelvis, and allows me to comfortably do so many of the things that were impossible for me just last week. Most importantly, I feel like the belt is giving my poor, injured muscles a chance to rest, relax, and hopefully heal. It has given me back my quality of life, my sanity, and my hope. That may sound corny, but I really mean all of it. I cannot more highly recommend this for anyone with low back problems, especially those that have been diagnosed with Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction. I am a believer!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, April 5, 2011
This review is from: New Serola Sacroiliac Belt (Misc.)
I have had chronic back pain for going on 8 months now. Physical therapy will help and then I face set backs. In the past month realized a lot of my trouble was from my right Sacroilic joint being out of place. PT will help me get the joint back in place and I've learned techniques to manage that on my own, but pain has still been a constant issue. It's been to the point where I'm completely debilitated. I started using a TENS unit to help manage pain which worked wonders but was bothered to have to use that all time to just to manage daily functions because it was such a hassle. I bought this belt and put it on, skeptic that it would work and was proven wrong! I work on my feet for 8 hours a day and usually by hour 2 am in so much pain that I'm in near tears and would have to blast my TENS unit to get through....but with this belt, I don't need to wear my TENS unit at all or take medicine. It's truly amazing and well worth the money. Can't recommend this enough!

Great support, I love it. Stays in place the skin can breath. The velcro can poke you if you don't get it just right.

5.0 out of 5 stars Helpful for some sacral stabilization, March 11, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: New Serola Sacroiliac Belt (Misc.)
Before I got this belt, I was using one of my martial arts belts (2" wide 100% cotton) as I waited for this belt to simulate stabilization. This martial arts belt method worked in very much the same way ... so I knew that this belt would provide some relief and that I would be able to wear it without looking like a Ninja or something.

The belt provides stabilization for sacro-iliac (SI) joints that might be a bit loose. In my instance, this is part of an entire regimen which includes TENS, pain meds and some stretching. This along with my Carex Coccyx Cushion (I own 3 of them) provide nice relief in the car, on seats and when traveling. The belt is nice but can be a bit uncomfortable when sitting. I find myself using it when standing or trying to walk to do stretches that exacerbate that extremely painful joint.

This belt is more expensive than some of the others but I think it is worth the money in construction alone. It is very well made and comfortable.

5 stars.

Update May 30, 2011 - I have just undergone my second SI Joint injection and this belt in conjunction with the injection does miracles for me. That laxity in my SI joint totally irritates the nerve and causes sciatic-type pain. The belt has done ok for a year but I decided to purchase another as a spare. Don't want to be caught without it.
