Terry Goodkind has a match,

This review is from: The Serpent Bride: DarkGlass Mountain: Book One (Mass Market Paperback)
I agree with the two other reviewers 100% ( but I only give 5 stars to Camus' The Stranger and The Great Gatsby <g>) I loved Terry Goodkind's series and was sad when I finished the 10th or was it the 11th book. I've been looking for a replacement and le viola there it is in the person of Australian writer Sara Douglass. I ordered The Serpent Bride and two days later it was finished and as Scorpio Girl so aptly put it, I couldn't wait to order book two. If you like fantasy and if you think there can't be another version of "dark force gets loose to destroy the world" that you want to read....think again. Good story telling never is repetative and Ms Douglass is the woman I want to sit with around the fire place as she spins tale after tale (I've also ordered The Starman Trilogy called in the US The Wayfarer Redemption).
What sets her apart from the other cycle stories is her ability to capture human nature even when the characters have wings and heads of jackels. Also her writing is quite sexual in the mythic Joseph Campbell/Freud/Oedipus tradition and I believe that she will appeal to readers who have never tried the mythic cycle genre. Trust me: you are in for a treat with Sara Douglass and her world of demons, demigods and death Patrick Cronin

You know how every once in a while an author comes along and takes some boring old plot and gives it such a twist that it puts you on the edge of your seat and begging for more ? This is that type of book !
The plot seems typical- at first and then branches off with twists and turns not often expected. When reading you could clearly see how the circumstances in teh book came to be but you still do not expect them. What i really enjoyed was the fact that the characters seemed realitic and human in their actions. The heros weren't SO unusual in their personalities that you could not relate. Instead they act much like the typical person would in that situation and I found myself very absorbed in the book because of it. It was refreshing. The book builds upon the authors previous series but if you never read it ( i didn't ) it is still very easy to pick up a summary of what it was about and you are more than able to follow the story. It ends in a way that makes you instantly want to go out and read the sequel ! Read it.. i know i really enjoyed it !

Hmmmnnn... Evil Bad Spirit lurks imprisoned by Nice Good Forces starts to seep out and influence the unsusspecting world--Wait!! I've read about this idea in several books!! But this lady is a good storyteller with great characters with deep trust and lust issues that move the plot right along. Basically the TV show " 24 " has the same plot line all the time and manages to keep the people and plots interesting. Douglass uses that same idea here to excellent effect. Hey! She should write for TV and make tons of real world money!
