3.0 out of 5 stars Okay Read
I decided after reading and loving Shades of a Chameleon, I would go back and read Serpent in My Corner. Needless to say I was a bit disappointed. I thought the book didn't pick up until chapter 20 and what kind of FBI Agent was Hennessy? I'll tell you a bad one. Also what is the deal with everybody winking there eye; I noticed the same thing in her other book. All in all...

Serpent In My Corner by JDaniels highlights Hennessy Cooper working as an undercover FBI agent. Hennessy's assignment is to infiltrate the robbery ring of Tristan (T. J.) James. Hennessy has followed in the footsteps of her father, a retired police officer. She is smart, witty and cunning to the point that T. J. falls for her and all bets are off. With one more robbery to add to his elusive trophy case, T. J. swears this heist will set his partners and himself financially free for life. What T. J. does not know is that someone other than the FBI is out to foil his plan for reasons of revenge. But the question remains-who is the real serpent-Hennessy or these unknown assailants.

JDaniels captivates the reader regarding T. J.'s life as she portrays his life growing up as child in South Central Los Angeles and his relationship with his mother and his former neighborhood. We relive his stint in the penitentiary and an important friendship that he cultivates until the very end. Furthermore, T. J. has a demon that haunts him daily that adds intrigue to this story filled with crime, suspense and romance. The reader is taken on a whirlwind and energetic ride from Los Angeles to Washington, D. C., to picturesque New Mexico and back again. JDaniels' descriptions of these locales provide a necessary backdrop to the story at hand.

This is an excellent and fast paced story involving matters of the heart with multicultural characters that put stereotypes to rest. No one is whom he or she appears to be.

JDaniels has outdone herself. I read this book in one day literally and enjoyed every bit of it. The story unfolds as Henessey, an FBI agent is given an assignment to go under cover to set up a notorious high caliber thief in a mult-million dollar operation to take place. But what she learns is that the criminal she is set to bring down, turns into being her prince charming that she can't turn her back on. I would strongly recommend this book as it will leaving you thirsting for more.

Hennessy Cooper is an FBI agent sent undercover to bring in Tristan James "T.J." Jackson, a jewel thief who is planning to break into the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
With her first look at T.J., Hennessy knows that she is in trouble because the man is too fine!
Once she is accepted into the "gang" of T.J., Mateo, Hawk and Reynolds she starts to care about these men and see the good in them, Of course she has already fallen in love with T.J. and is now determined to "save" him rather than bust him. Needless to say her only contact in the FBI, Sebastian, who has his own reasons for getting T.J., is not happy with the way things are going.
After Hennessy is attacked she and T.J. grow even closer and she is even more determined to change his mind about the robbery at the MET.
What they don't realize is that they both have a serpent in their corner. Hennessy is in danger of her cover being blown and choosing between love and career to save the man that she loves.
You will not want to miss this one. This was an Excellent story full of suspense and unbelievable passion between two people that least expected it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excitement to the very last page!, July 1, 2003
The characters in this book were spellbounding. The storyline is very unique.

Hennessy Cooper is as smooth as the cognac she is named from, and Tristan Jackson is the sexy, bad boy every woman would love to just mmmmm...!

The story kept me wondering til the end. Nervous and tense, but at the same time I was mad when it was over because I wanted more more more!

I hope there will be a sequel. Great job JDaniels!

4.0 out of 5 stars Traitor In The Midst, June 25, 2003

Hennessy Cooper is a beautiful FBI agent, who's goal is to excel on every assignment. From the moment she sees a photograph of her latest target, Tristan "TJ" Jackson, she feels an instant attraction. And even though she knows that he is a notorious thief, she cannot ignore the pull that she feels on her heart strings, but she is determined not to let anything affect her job. Unfortunately, the heart sometimes overrules the head, and Hennessy knows this will be the hardest case of her career.

Knowing he is under surveillance, TJ is extremely cautious of the people he allows in his inner circle, but he lets Hennessey in. He is a thoughtful, kind person, but because of his career choice, this is not the impression most people have. TJ lost the most important person in his life because of his work and as a result, he is rethinking all aspects of his life. He is suspicious of all strangers due to his line of work. But TJ finds Hennessy extremely attractive and as a result he lowers his guard and breaks his own rule.

Author JDaniels SERPENT IN MY CORNER is romantic and adventurous. The characters are real and she makes you care about what happens to them. I previously enjoyed her writing, but I also see the growth with this book, and I anxiously await her next work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Is There A Serpent In Your Corner?, December 15, 2004
By
FBI agent Hennessy Cooper has received an assignment - infiltrate Tristan "T.J." Jackson's crew and bring them down. T.J. is an infamous thief whose next big heist is to steal precious artifacts from a New York Museum worth 40 million dollars. Having had previous experience with deep undercover work, this should not be a problem for Agent Cooper. Or is it? What happens when Hennessy finds herself falling for the very person she is assigned to bring in? What will Tristan do when he learns who she really is? And who besides the FBI is out to get Tristan? Maybe, just maybe, Hennessy is not the only "serpent" he needs to worry about.
This book was a good mixture of suspense, drama, mystery, and love.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Book I have ever Read!!!!, August 3, 2004
Wow!! I am usually not a suspense reader. Our book club selected this book as a monthly selection, therefore I "had" to read it. I am so glad that I did.Once I picked up this book it was very difficult to put it down. The main two chracters Hennessey and Tristian were great together. The book was well written. It will keep you guessing up until the end. I thought the title was perfect. The definition given in the book for serpent was great; " someone close to you that is intentionally trying to hurt you." I am patiently waiting for J.D. Daniels next book to come out. I hope its a sequel. I would love to find out what happens to Hennessey and T.J.

I wish this book 10 Stars. Everything about the book caught my attention, how Tristen and Henessey fell inlove, how he could basically trust no one; the fact that their live intertwined in ways they did not realize. it was romantic, dramatic, and sad. the fact that he had to loose his mentor in such a tragic way really got too me. i enjoyed these characters to the fullest. J. Daniels is a terrific writer. He kept me spellbound and intrigued. I recommend Luvalwayz
