5.0 out of 5 stars Two albums on one CD from one great kickbooty band
... I just got my copy of this CD today, and I love it.Especially the hidden track"Plexiglass Toilet".It is a funny song and another good song is the title tracks(Serpent is Rising and Man of Miracles).I must say that I have been a Styx fan for 7 years and I have never heard these albums before now.I gave it 5 stars. So much for Mr.Perfectionest who claims that...

1.0 out of 5 stars Go for the imports, not this!
Ok, I love these releases, and they deserve more than 1 star, but that fact is the SOUND quality is HORRIBLE! The mastering here doesn't sound much better than an 8 track. If you want eh FULL effect from these, spend a little more money and buy the Japanese versions, also available here on Amazon. They didn't release them as a 2 for 1, they are two seperate entities...

They didn't release them as a 2 for 1, they are two seperate entities. The Japanese versions cost more, but they contain original artwork (covers), full lyrics, liner notes and K2 Remastering, the best remastering possible. They will run you about 22.99 a piece, but believe me they are BETTER than this SIR/MOM combo!

4.0 out of 5 stars Price Hard To Beat, March 16, 2001
By
This review is from: Serpent Is Rising/Man Of Miracles (Audio CD)
I have the 2 LP's bought in the last 1970's and have the 2seperate CD's from several years ago. You're definately going to find(dollar amount) worth of rock music and rock ballads here. Hard rockers Witch Wolf, Young Man, Winner Take All, Rock & Roll Feeling, Havin A Ball and Man of Miracles are the best of JY's songs. Reminds me why I wished he would've contributed more to Brave New World. Dennis is great on The Grove of Eglantine, teaming up with JY on 22 Years, A Song For Suzanne, Lies and Christopher Mr Christopher. Former guitarist John Curlewski screams out The Serpent Is Rising with ferocity. The band's patented backing vocals are in full force here. If you're a Styx fan and have gone as far back as Crystal Ball and Equinox, you might as well go all out and get this double set as well as Styx I and II. They're well worth it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Evolving Styx: The Serpent is Rising/Man of Miracles, December 15, 1999
This review is from: Serpent Is Rising/Man Of Miracles (Audio CD)
I enjoy both of these albums, even though there are no "hits" on them. My favorite songs are "The Grove of Eglantine", "Golden Lark", and "A Song for Suzanne". Many of the other songs are respectable. I have always had trouble distinguishing between JY and John Curelewski's vocals. As other reviewers have stated, "Unfinished Song", which was released on "MIRACLES" years ago (circa 1981), IS one of Dennis De Young's best songs. In fact, I (a die hard Styx fan), never heard "Lies" until a few weeks ago when I picked up this compilation while I was visiting CHICAGO (what a coincedence) at Thanksgiving. "Lies" does not compare to "Unfinished Song". As a last word, you must hear and then buy this CD if for only to own the CD that contains "Plexiglass Toilet", which is a hidden track on "The Serpent is Rising". A very resonable price and a Tour de Force!

5.0 out of 5 stars Styx at their finest, May 13, 2003

You know, I haven't actually heard this album, but my dad has the old LP's and I love them. I must warn you, this isn't conventional Styx, there is a lot more heavy guitar, etc. My favorite songs are 'The Serpent is Rising,' 'Witch Wolf,' and 'Golden Lark,' although nearly all of the songs are great. The one gripe I have is with 'Krakatoa,' because it is just kind of dumb. I don't understand why any of the songs here don't appear on the Greatest Hits album. This is definitely Styx's best. Go out and buy it now. You won't be disappointed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Two Great Albums Have Finally Arrived, November 25, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Serpent Is Rising/Man Of Miracles (Audio CD)
An out of print CD for many years and it's finally nice to have it on CD. The sound quality is good for a 1972 album. Highlights include: Golden Lark, Serpent is Rising, and Man of Miracles. Rare but excellent Styx at its best..John, the drummer, will sadly be missed by all fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT CD from an excellent band!, June 9, 2000
This review is from: Serpent Is Rising/Man Of Miracles (Audio CD)
These CDs are great! I love "Christopher, Mr. Christopher" and "Jonas Psalter." They're beautiful songs and like so many Styx songs they tell great stories, some partially true. "Song for Suzanne" is also very beautiful. Then there's "Winner Take All" and "Rock & Roll Feeling," 2 great uplifting, rock & roll songs! I really believe this is early Styx at their best! Buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars where did it go?, April 3, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Serpent Is Rising/Man Of Miracles (Audio CD)
Dear Amazon,
This Cd is truly fantastic, but why is it out of stock. This was basically the last place on the face of the earth, to locate Serpent/miracles. Could you please try and return it to your inventory, or at least have the used ones go down in price. A song for Suzanne, christopher mr christopher, and man of miracles are worth it alone. Could you please bring it back for the many Styx fans out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally here!, July 13, 1999
This review is from: Serpent Is Rising/Man Of Miracles (Audio CD)
These have been out of print for quite a while. They were issued in 1989 and 1990 and disappeared quickly as Styx fans picke them up. As more and more people converted their old LP's to CD, these became even more rare. It is good to see they are back in print again on one disc, specially low priced. These are a must have for any Styx fan. "Serpent Is Rising" is Dennis DeYoung least favorite, but it is Styx's darkest album featuring the title cut and "Krakatoa". Also featured are "Witch Wolf" and my personal favorite, "Young Man" with JY at his best. These early albums had a more JY rocking edge to them and more complex that the first 2 CD's, "STYX I" and "STYX II". Man Of Miracles has some wonderful tunes, and kicks off with a JY tune "Rock & Roll Feeling". Unforunately, this version of MOM does not contain the long out of print "Unfinished Song", one of DDY's best. The title track is a rocker, very complex and showing the direction Styx would take once they hit A&M Records. A must have for any diehard or casual fan of Styx just to check out how they evolve and get better with each release.
