Serta Ultra Plush Electric Heated Micro-Fleece Blanket - We've designed the Serta low-voltage blanket with one thing in mind. To be the best, most comfortable and safest blanket that you will ever own. This electric blanket starts with super soft micro-fleece fabric that is refreshingly smooth next to your skin for the ultimate in luxurious comfort. Constructed within the blanket is the patented Safe and Warm low-voltage technology. This low-voltage blanket includes a small power supply box that changes 120-volt AC home current into non-hazardous low-voltage DC current (very similar to a battery) to provide warmth, protection and safety even if the blanket becomes wet. Unlike other warming blankets with their thick bulky wires, the wires in the Serta blankets are so small and thin; they are virtually unnoticeable. The benefit to you is a blanket that gives more of an even heat and all over penetrating warmth with no annoying hot or cold spots. The full size blanket comes standard with one easy to read, easy to turn, non-slip computerized controller to adjust the temperature of the blanket. A giant backlit display with auto dimming feature provides more convenience for night time adjustments with out having to turn on the lights. It has an automatic pre-heat and hold feature that makes sure that your bed is warm and cozy before you climb in for the night. You simply turn it on and the blanket will warm up on HI until it reaches the temperature that you pre set your dial on and then adjusts itself to hold it there. For your safety, convenience and power conservation it has an automatic shut off feature that will shut the blanket off after 10-hour just in case you forget. It also comes standard with built in over-temperature protection for that extra bit of safety and peace of mind. Easy care feature means that it's machine washable and dryable and will not stretch, pill or shrink giving you many years of warm luxurious use.

I wanted very much to replace it but didn't get around to it until I saw a special deal on my Kindle.

Very complicated wires and controls have to be hooked up to two separate outlets.

When I was in college, I had a wonderful electric blanket that would heat up and keep me very warm even on the coldest of winter nights. It worked for ages but disappeared one year while we were moving. I wanted very much to replace it but didn't get around to it until I saw a special deal on my Kindle. Straight out of the package, I thought the fleece felt cheap. Perhaps it will soften up after some use but for now, it feels like a plush carnival toy. It takes a while to heat up but it does feel comfortably warm on the highest setting. Unfortunately the highest setting on this blanket felt like the lowest on my old blanket. I was constantly cranking that one up to medium or high. I will update this review after winter really sets in here in New England.

*UPDATE*
After using this blanket for the past month, I have found a few good points and a few disappointing ones. First, the blanket has softened up quite a bit. I've washed it once and it feels more like a normal fleece than a cheap, stiff fleece. Secondly, it does warm up a lot after a few uses. I've found that it gets warmest if there's another blanket on top of this one to keep the heat in. Also, it turns off automatically after 12 hours.
Now for the bad. The heat seems to jump around on this blanket. You can almost feel when the hotspot jumps to a different spot on this blanket. Often, it's my feet that are the coldest and I get irritated waiting for the hotspot to reach there. Also, the plug that goes into the bottom of the blanket is slightly sharp. If I get my foot near it, it can scratch and wake me up.
Overall, it's a decent blanket. It has a few shortcomings but nothing major enough to make me look for a different electric blanket.

I'm living in 20' of a 40' shipping container on a base in Afghanistan...you read that right...I honestly call a can my home. And when it's 15 degrees outside, the only thing in here that's warmer than 40 degrees is the air.

Using less than 50 watts, this thing does what a can heater can't do with 2kW...keep you warm. And, if a wire ever does get chafed on it, it's low voltage DC, so you'll probably live to complain you blanket's broken. (Unless it manages to catch the innards of your shipping container or real house on fire, that is. If that happens, all bets are off.)

For voltage, it's only rated for 120V, but it's dual rated for 50 and 60 Hz, so no worries running it off of a transformer.

If you're a fellow can-dweller, you need one of these.

The blanket is all it was advertised as, fast to heat, even comfort including the feet which many others overlook. It has almost microscopic wires and a durable but comfy plush fabric. The downside is although advertised, it does NOT have a preheat feature and additionally has a very low tech rheostats analog based controller. Be that as it may, the controller does an excellent job of what it was designed for. I would buy this blanket again.

I have a Serta Ultra Plush low-voltage electric heated Micro-fleece King blanket. I wanted another one, so ordered this blanket expecting it to be the same. It is described as the same blanket. The price was competitive with the price I paid for my first Serta blanket. When it arrived, I was so disappointed by the quality. The name on the package was not Serta. So I did some research. This blanket is sold by Brookstone claiming to be the Serta Ultra plush etc. but it is NOT. This blanket is a brand called SOFT HEAT made by the same manufacturer of Serta products. Soft Heat is an inferior product. If you are looking for the real Serta blanket, don't pay the big bucks for this one. The fabric is not as soft or luxurious as the ultra plush that you are paying for.
As a product, these low voltage electric blankets are a huge improvement over the regular electric blankets. They do not get hot spots and you cannot easily feel the wires. The warmth is more subtle. They gently hold the heat and warm you throughout the night. I'm sold on the new generation of electric blankets and if I am going to pay the extra money I want the quality of the REAL Serta Ultra Plush, not this wannabe.

Well made, with good seams and sewing, and nice and soft to the touch!

Plus, it doesn't have any of the unsightly wires of the older-style electric blankets, due to it being 'low voltage'. That's acheived by a 'power brick' built into the line cord that steps-down and converts the incoming 120 Volts AC to 18.5 Volts DC, at 3.5 Amperes current flow.

Thus, compared to the older-style electric blankets that run directly at 120 Volts AC, this blanket is far safer if there are any 'shorts' or accidental wear that exposes the wires.

All-in-all, a very good buy, and five-star recommended!
