The Server+ Certification Bible is a combination of information drawn right from the Server+ test objectives. It focuses on subject matter mastery, complete with review questions to prepare you for the exam. Topics focus on vendor-neutral knowledge covering multiple server types, server installation procedures, configuration and upgrading, advanced hardware issues, proactive maintenance, network cabling and connecting, troubleshooting, SCSI, multiple CPU's and RAID and will addressed a level of knowledge above basic hardware issues. As with all books in the Certification Bible series, The Server+ Certification Bible relies on logical organization, practice, and real-world examples to facilitate learning beyond the exam.

Covers: Exam SKO-001

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Lots of publishers rushed their books about the CompTIA Server+ certification to market. After all, it's a new certification and certification books tend to sell well. Trevor Kay and the team at Hungry Minds have taken care to put together a high-quality book. It'll get you up to speed on everything you'll need to understand before you can pass CompTIA's Server Hardware exam (SK0-001), and it's sufficiently detailed to serve as a reference as you put your certification to use on the job. Kay's approach to his subject is to use CompTIA's published outline of test coverage as his organizational guide, then elaborate on each of its points with lots of prose and a handful of illustrations.

Like the Server+ exam itself, this book does not guarantee prompt obsolescence by going into detail about specific server makes and models. Rather, it focuses on the knowledge and practices that make up the system administrator's core skills. These include familiarity with widely used technologies like SCSI and TCP/IP, and knowledge of how to set up remote network management systems. Kay is fond of describing good practices in terms of general tasks that can easily be translated into platform-specific procedures in the machine room. Because it's a certification guide, this book includes pre- and post-tests (the latter with annotated answers) in each chapter. --David Wall

Topics covered: The subjects covered by the CompTIA Server Hardware exam, including hardware planning, installation, configuration, modification, maintenance, and disaster recovery.

5.0 out of 5 stars It does the job, October 13, 2001
This review is from: Server+ Certification Bible (Hardcover)
The Server+ exam is a tough one for sure. You will need a good text book to study from but also some hands on experience will help. The only reason I purchased this book was because of the great reviews it has been receiving. This book does the job if your interested in passing the Server+ exam and you do not have tons of hands on experience. This book strictly focuses on the actual exam, that is why I believe it is so popular for just a text book. You don't have to be a technical geek to understand the concepts in this book. You can tell the Server+ Certification Bible was written with the reader in mind. You don't have to have years of server experience to pass this exam just a good text book that focuses strictly on the topics needed to pass. I'm happy with it because it helped me pass the exam and I just wanted everyone to know :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Make this your primary study guide, October 20, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Server+ Certification Bible (Hardcover)
Before I decided on a Server+ study guide I check out "Server+ Exam Cram",
Server+ Exam Prep: Exam: SK0-001 (wrong exam number it's a O not a 0)" and
Server+ Certification All-in-One Exam Guide" these books are very good, but
Server+ Certification Bible by Trevor Kay comes out the winner as far as I'm
concerned. I am only 19 years old with very little network server
experience. I ended up buying the All-in-One book, and the Server+
Bible. The Server+ Bible was the more exam accurate of the two. When I say
accurate I mean that this book was very helpful with helping the reader
understand what to expect on the real exam and what key points to remember.
Now I am going for my MSCE.

This review is from: Server+ Certification Bible (Hardcover)
This is an excellent teaching and review guide for the Comptia Server+ exam. The study material is 502 pages, with factual information regarding every aspect of Server knowledge, along with easy to understand explanations of less obvious facts. Each chapter has a review, and a 100 question practice test covering all the material is at the end of the book. The included CD also has a 264 question practice test divided into four parts. The book is logical, easy to read, and contains no irrevelant or made-up information, as is found in many other Server + guides on the market. It is written by one author rather than a committee, which may account for its conciseness and readabiltiy. This is one of the the best overall Certification books I have read, and give it a wholehearted 5 star rating.
