OK novel on Vietnam and surviving war..,

Robert A. Anderson's "Service for the Dead" has a noble intent: to show the madness that war brings to those who fight it and the way they have to cope. The book opens with the hero in a hospital, recovering both physically and mentally from a deadly attack. Then the novel goes into flashback and let's us see the war through the eyes of a slightly idealistic college graduate that gets the name of "Crazy Mike". The Shakespeare quotes were a nice touch. The grunts try and keep their sanity by giving each other nicknames and they call the enemy "Zorro" and "The Cisco Kid". But even that doesn't always work, and the unit figuratively goes through the meat grinder. At the end, Mike tries to deal with survivor's guilt but the bit with him watching a documetary on Iwo Jima feels wrong though. 3 stars.
