Fern is very beautiful, very rich and very spoilt. She lives a hedonistic life until she unwittingly commits a crime and is sent to an experimental and unofficial correctional facility where she lives in relative luxury but where severe corporal punishment is meted out for every offence.

This puts Fern into an increasingly uncertain and reluctantly subservient position. I try to do this in each novel by using a setting where the normal rules of life don't apply. For example, Subculture is set in a remote clinic where the live-in female staff has to follow doctor's orders and where stretching out on the couch involves lying on your tummy rather than on your back... Similarly, Lingering Lessons takes place in a remote former boarding school now partly owned by a dominant man who writes advertising copy for cleverly-tormenting adult toys.

In Serving Time this setting includes impromptu courts where retribution is deservedly meted out. Fern originally believes that she can buck the system but soon she's the one bucking under the judicial punishments.

I found this book delightful. The last chapter was delicious - a fitting end to this story. A woman after my own heart. I would have loved to be "Mistress" Fern for just one day. Probably even had her as my Mistress for another day... I don't know if Ms. Veitch has a sequel, but I would like to find out just how far Fern's career goes. I am looking forward to Ms. Veitch's other works. She obviously knows what the rear end was made for. I'm not into sadistic scenes, but a good bottom warming would probably be good for all of us from time to time. Kudos to Ms. Veitch.

This is a great read because it's not JUST sex, and it's not JUST punishment, but a nice combination of the two. I enjoyed the fact that Fern does get to enjoy herself, and isn't just punished arbitrarily. Unlike some other erotica I've read, this is truly erotic, AND has a plot (congratulations Ms. Veitch). I didn't like the random love mentionings, but, luckily, they were few and far between. All in all, this was fun to read.
