Do the Alphabet
When Baby Bear must learn his alphabet in one day, Big Bird patiently takes him under his wing in Do the Alphabet. Only "The Method," (a hilarious combination of dance, song, visualization, and group therapy) can help Baby Bear on such short notice. The result is 40 minutes of ABC's Sesame Street style, where vibrant educational cartoons, enthusiastic kids, famous guest stars (here, Billy Joel), and harmonizing Muppets make lasting educational impressions. Children ages 2 to 6 will enjoy the upbeat musical numbers dedicated to various letters; a favorite segment features the Boogie Woogie Piggies and their flashy rendition of the alphabet song. Throughout the well-paced show, Big Bird offers just the right blend of coaching and friendship, much like the ace support-group leader he's mildly spoofing. Hats off to Sesame Street for helping Baby Bear--and his viewing audience--understand that learning takes time, patience, and a team effort. --Liane Thomas

123 Count With Me
Join Ernie at the Furry Arms Hotel for a musical lesson in just how useful counting can be. When Ernie finds and returns a misplaced key, he uses his knowledge of numbers to return the key to the correct guest. As Ernie begins to learn about the hotel business, he finds many common situations in which counting is essential. Throughout the 30-minute video, Ernie and his friends help children learn to count from 1 to 20 with such songs as the jazzy "That's How the Numbers Go," an original version of the Chorus Line show tune "One," and "Rap Song #11." Favorite Sesame Street characters Elmo and the Count are joined by new characters including Ding the Dinger, a furry fellow with a bell on his head, and Benny, the bellboy that responds to Ding the Dinger's dings. Children as young as 18 months will bounce happily along with the catchy tunes, and 2-year-olds will be inspired to count aloud with Ernie. Kids up to age 5 will hone their counting skills and laugh at the increasingly frustrated Benny as he delivers everything from 1 bucket of ice to 15 stampeding elephants! If you're looking for a fun video that teaches counting skills, here it is. --Tami Horiuchi

5.0 out of 5 stars Both are great!, June 28, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Sesame Street - Do the Alphabet & 1 2 3 Count With Me (2 in 1 Video) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Both of these video titles are so fun and educational!

Do the Alphabet features Baby Bear in a hurry to learn his ABCs (in order to avoid being teased by Goldilocks!)...Big Bird helps him with his method to learn the alphabet, which includes songs, relaxation exercises and an appearance by Billy Joel, too! My toddler loves to dance with the kids and has even picked up a few letters along the way!

1-2-3 Count With Me is one of my toddler's favorite videos -- it features Ernie, who helps hotel workers (which include the hilarious Benny the Bunny) discover how useful numbers can be! Numbers are showcased either through a fun song or a skit with Benny -- both are innovative ways to learn.

Both of these videos are entertaining to toddlers (and their parents, too!) and will encourage them to watch and learn again and again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Toddler twins love Do The Alphabet, December 19, 2001

I purchased Do The Alphabet for my boy/girl twins when they were 6 months old and they've been mesmerized by it since. They are now 20 months old and are beginning to say the words of the alphabet song along with Big Bird and Baby Bear. I think that this video and some of our other Sesame Street videos (like The Alphabet Jungle Game) have helped them begin to recognize and be able to say the letters sooner. They are particularly fascinated with Baby Bear. I would highly recommend this one!

1.0 out of 5 stars Do the Alphabet - a great disappointment, July 25, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Sesame Street - Do the Alphabet & 1 2 3 Count With Me (2 in 1 Video) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I bought this video along with some of the Elmo's World videos which my son loves, and I was so disappointed after watching it only once. I will not let my 17 month old son watch it as he loves to watch Elmo videos over and over. I don't want him watching Baby Bear doing his "mispwonunciations" while my son is in this stage of learning speech. I do not want my son to listen to the "mispwonunciations" and pick them up and then have to teach him the correct pronunciation later. It's hard enough for them to learn speech but their learning is based on what they hear. Since Sesame Street does not include an age guide on the outside of the video, I'm not sure if they meant for this to be for older children and maybe it isn't a problem when they're older but I plan to donate this video because I wouldn't even give it to another mom to have then go through this. Maybe in a library or a doctor's office where children only view the tape occasionally it would be OK but this was NOT the video for my family to own. I also will not be bringing home anything else with Baby Bear speaking in it.
