Feed and Count with His Favorite Treat

Cookie Monster is a fun and hungry friend. Decide whether he's in the mood for chocolate-chocolate chip or regular chocolate chip, and feed him his three cookies one at a time. And don't forget--he's keeping count. When your child slips a cookie into his open mouth, it moves into his backpack so he'll never run out of his favorite snack.

Tickle, Giggle, and Cuddle with Cookie Monster

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun but not likely to be enduring August 24, 2011
Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
Durability: 3.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 1.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
My kids were thrilled with this as soon as it was out of the box. It's fun to play with, for what it does. It only does basically one thing though, so don't expect it to be a longstanding favorite toy or anything like that. You feed the cookies into Cookie Monster's mouth and he provides some commentary (including a loud burp). The cookies then pass into his backpack, and when they are all there he hints "maybe more cookies in backpack?" Fortunately it's not all that loud, so the annoyance factor for parents is pretty low. Any alleged educational value is severely overstated. I mean yes, you can count that there are three cookies, and I guess you could count how many times he eats then and then deposits them in his backpack, but...yeah there's really no educational value. They will definitely be bored with this toy by the end of the week, if not sooner, but for right now it's a hit. Accordingly, I think this toy would be best at a grandparent's house or in a waiting room or something, where it can captivate for a short time as needed and be put away and revisited later before the novelty wears off.

4.0 out of 5 stars Some problems, but my son loves it February 17, 2012

You can very obviously hear the mechanics in him moving when he talks. Also, his head seems pretty fragile, though we haven't had any problems with it breaking. His bottom "base" isn't flat, so he wobbles around a lot. He's not soft, his fur is soft, but his body is hard. He hasn't gotten dirty yet, so I dunno how hard he is to clean, but he can't be machine washed. For adults, the laughing feature can get annoying. It would also be great if there was a way to securely close the backpack for travel. We've lost a cookie because there is no latch.

My son (2 years old) loves him though, he carries him all over by Cookie's eyes, it would have been better if maybe there was a handle on Cookie's backpack. The concept is so simple, I didn't even have to show my son how to use the toy. There are only 3 cookies and Cookie himself only counts up to 3. I wish they had made him count up to 5 with 5 cookies, since I think 5 is a pretty natural number to stop at (5 fingers, 5 toes...) My son laughs at the burping, Cookie DOES say "excuse me" which is nice. It keeps his attention for a very long time. It's great to take along on doctor visits. It's not as large as most interactive stuffed animals, and fits nicely in my son's lap while he's in his stroller.

Overall, my son loves it. It's worth the $35 I paid for it, as it has given that much entertainment. However, I hope with newer models that the mechanical sounds, the fragile feel, and the cookie amount changes.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun but not durable December 20, 2011
Durability: 2.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 4.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
My son got this Cookie Monster for his 2nd birthday, and he absolutely loved it. Unfortunately, it's not very durable. It's been less than two months, and it's broken already. Cookie's mouth no longer opens and closes on its own, and it doesn't recognize when cookies are dropped into its mouth. Full disclosure --- my son liked to manually open and close his mouth when playing with it, so I'm sure that's what eventually broke it. But, when the description says "18+ months" you have to expect that a child would like to do that. Disappointing that it no longer works.
