Editorial Reviews

Somewhere into the so-so "Itsy Bitsy Spider" segment, the sinking feeling that Kids' Favorite Songs 2 is strictly sequel material sets in. This is a march down Sesame Street on a slow day, when the loopy monster misunderstandings and goofball gags miss a rare beat or two. Still, making merry is what the Sesame crew does best, and they succeed here, if on a less brilliant level than we've come to expect. All the usual favorites, like "If You're Happy and You Know It" and "The Ants Go Marching," get the gang and their real-life kid friends grooving, and a running joke involving a renegade meatball keeps kids 18 months to 5 tuned in to the end. Elmo hosts. --Tammy La Gorce

3.0 out of 5 stars Too much talking - not enough singing March 4, 2002
This Sesame Street DVD is kind of disappointing. We purchased for my 15-month old daugher. She loves the Kids Favorite Songs 1, so we figured she would enjoy this one too. Turns out that this one spends 1/3 of the time interviewing the kids so find out what they think things mean. Example: When they sing the song "The Bear Went Over the Mountain", they spend 2 minutes asking the kids where they think he went. When they say the Nursery Rhyme "Mary, Mary Quite Contrary", they get some weird answers about what the kids think "Cockshells" are.
They have some of the kids put a tune to some of the nursery rhymes on here that I am not even sure were meant to be sung to any tune in kind of just ends of hurting your ears.
When they do get around to singing, it is actually ok. "The Bear Went Over the Mountain," and "The Wheels on the Bus," are pretty good.
A lot of this video is just spent with kids poking at each other and acting silly/goofy at their own answers. I probably wouldn't purchase it again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best investment I have made in the past 15 months! September 25, 2002
By A Customer
Format:VHS Tape
I can honestly say this is the very best investment I could have made. And, if I would have known it sooner I would have bought it months ago and paid 10 times what I paid for this!
My son is a rather busy child and is into everything and always underneath of me. He is always where I am and never does a thing by himself. Pop this video in and he's gone. He screams when the video starts and gets his spot in front of the tv and starts dancing. The reason I do think he's in love with this video is because Elmo "interviews" actual children and asks what their favorite song is. Then the children either talk about it or sing the song and my son loves kids so he's glued to the tv. We have quite a collection of Sesame videos but this is by far his favorite. I bought the kids favorite songs 1 today and will see if he loves this as much. The tunes are regular nursery rhymes and my husband and I are always singing these at any given moment because we've watched it a hundred times!
This is soo worth it for the free time we get and the ear to ear grin my son has when it's on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Go buy this video TODAY!!! October 13, 2003
By J. Fish
My 17 month old daughter ADORES this video. Not only does my little one love to dance around and sing to the video but this video has taught her how to do the movements for "Itsy Bitsy Spider", "The Wheels on the Bus", "If you're happy and you know it..." and "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star". Also, she can now decipher up from down (because of the song "The Brave ole' Captiain Brown") I am a Kindergarten teacher and this video truely gives toddlers a good foundation to the basics of education. Of course nothing can replace the value of a parent reading to their child, but this video is a MUST HAVE for all parents of toddlers!

5.0 out of 5 stars Savannah's new favorite! December 4, 2002
Format:VHS Tape
My 12 month old daughter absolutely loves Elmo. The Best of Elmo was her favorite from about 9 months, but now Kid's Favorite Songs 2 has knocked it out of the top spot. I have to admit the first couple of times she watched it she got a little bored so I didn't know how it would go over ultimately. Then she warmed up to it about the 3rd time we watched it and has become the one that makes her smile, laugh, and point (so cute!) the most. She loves listening to and watching the kids Elmo interviews about the songs and of course all the great parts with Elmo. Wheels on the Bus which is on this video has been her favorite song from about 3 months when I would change her diaper and run through the songs and actions to keep her entertained. It's a hit at our house.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Of ELMO October 19, 2001
Format:VHS Tape
My grandson started watching Sesame Street Videos when he was only 6 months old. The Best of ELMO was the first video I purchased and he would watch the whole thing without moving.
My daughter did not believe it until she saw him. I am a grandma and I own 13 Sesame Videos and my grandson enjoys everyone of them. I know he is learning while he watching.

4.0 out of 5 stars MESMERIZING February 26, 2003
By A Customer
My 7 month old loves this DVD. I bought a Thomas the Train video and he did not seem too interested. I put this in and he stopped playing with his toys and just smiled so big when Elmo comes on. Yes, the kid clips where they are being "interviewed" and sing horribly out of tune - like most kids do - are not fun for me to watch but I am not the intended audience. My boy seems very interested in watching the short clips of the children. The background is very bright and colorful. The cartoon clips for the songs are enjoyable for him too.

5.0 out of 5 stars my son's favorite sesame street video October 18, 2002
By A Customer
this is my son's favorite sesame street video. from the age of about 10 months he really started paying attention to what was going on (he's 15 months now). my husband & I have watched this video so many times with our son, we recognize all the kids and even know the order of the songs. I would recommend this one over the Kids' Favorite Songs (1) since it is much longer in length (more for your money) and has kids singing songs themselves in between elmo & the gang. my son loves to people watch and this makes it even more fun for him (I think) that he can see actual kids singing these songs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great music for babies and toddlers! January 21, 2003
Format:VHS Tape
I bought this video for my son when he was 7 mos. old after I found that he loved Kids Favorite Songs 1. Six months later, he still loves it--he claps and dances to the music. (This video is also one of my 14 mos old niece's favorites.) Also, now that he is older and is curious about other children, he likes to watch the children being interviewed. As with most Sesame Street music, the songs are arranged beautifully and some of the arrangements are pretty sophisticated. There is a little more humor for adults in this one than #1 so watching it for the 50th time doesn't make you want to pull your hair out (how can you not laugh when the Mary puppet of "Mary had a little lamb" fame admonishes her lamb in a Scottish brogue?). Also, the video includes an episode of Hero Guy, which is always fun. (By the way, if your child is young (3-6 mos.), s/he probably will not be able to watch for more than 5 to 10 minutes at a time because of their short attention spans.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Sesame Street always Wins!
My son adores Sesame Street and all the singing. This was especially good since they're all songs that young kids tend to know and are easily learned by toddlers.
