love those dogs,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sesame Street - Mother Goose [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I bought this video for my granddaughter, who is just over 2. She loves it and so do I! One poor dog, Simon, does not know how to rhyme and his mother(Mother Goose's daughter) is trying to help him by going over Mother Goose rhymes. It is clever and very funny for the adults. The children are listening to rhymes that I think all children should be exposed to and enjoying the dogs because they are so funny. Much better to watch with a child than those cartoon videos. My granddaughter always asks me to play the dogs.

I love this video, as does my 2-yr old son, my 35-yr old husband, my 55 yrold father-in-law and my 69-yr old mom. It's refreshing to find a video made for kids that adults can enjoy just as much (which is why I loathe Barney, who makes me barf). I completely disagree with the previous reviewer; this video is every bit as entertaining as Alphabet Soup or Fay's 12 Days of Xmas. The visuals are so incongruously funny; the costuming and set decoration are top notch; the dogs are smart and adorable; and I enjoyed Wegman's wry and sardonic commentary on the nursery rhymes. If you want straight, non-nonsense Mother Goose, I'd suggest Richard Scarry's Best Mother Goose video, which presents the rhymes in traditional and charming song form. But the Wegman tape is dogs dressed in ermine and velvet, pretending to be Miss Muffet, for crying out loud! Of course it's not taking it seriously. Enjoy it for what it is!

Kids Love It!,

I bought this video for my 4-year-old, and even at the ripe old age of 6 he will still sit and watch him over and over. At first he just liked the visuals--the weirdness of dogs dressed in clothes. Now he catches the puns and rhymes. A great video for little ones to grow up with....

The VHS tape arrived just as described with not so much as a tiny mark on the cellophane packaging that it's shrink wrapped in. I won't be watching this one myself, but there is a little girl that loves the Wegman videos that is thrilled to have this one and wanted to watch it as soon as her present was opened.

Barking up the wrong tree,

I hate to be negative, but this effort is not nearly as satisfying as "Alphabet Soup". They have used all of the same ingredients, but it just does not work. The movie begins with advertisements for other home videos, which our children do not need to be subjected. (Personal note: Please let us have a moment of peace and allow us to watch a movie without ads!) While "Alphabet Soup" is very entertaining for adults and children, this movie is rather slow. The redundant, ad-lib dialogue makes you feel like there was not enough legitimate content in the script. In addition, each rhyme should be read in its entirety while the dogs are performing, rather than the constant interruptions with the narrator's boring commentary. Nursery rhymes are meant to flow like music, but you can't feel the rhythm when commentary is added throughout each nursery rhyme.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME,

In a word - BORING! Not at all entertaining. I expected it to be quirky based upon the fact it was dog's acting out the nursery rhymes, but the video's monologe is so montone. Having trouble sleeping? Pop in the vcr. Have 30 minutes of your life you would like to totally waste? Pop it in. Otherwise stick with the regular Sesame Street videos, or get a Wiggles video that is guaranteed to rock your kids world.
