Sesame Street has been around for almost 40 years and airs in 120 countries. This is a wonderful sampling of songs and videos from the local Sesame shows: two songs from the U.S. and eleven others from Brazil, France, China, India, Israel, Mexico, the Netherlands, Palestine, Russia, South Africa and Tanzania. Each country brings their own characters, cultures, and themes to their own shows, although all are based in part on the originals. There are also five very good music videos.

Putumayo founder Dan Storper. "What could be a better way to help children become global citizens than to introduce them to other countries through their favorite Sesame Street characters?" Well, there are other ways, but this one is certainly effective.

Putumayo maintains a very generous Web site that has the liner notes, extracts from the songs and videos from the DVD. One of the nicest features are the texts of the songs both in the local language and in English; for example:

Just copying in the words makes the song come alive. This is an excellent CD to share with kids, or for an OF like me, to enjoy all on my own. Delightful. :)

You have never seen or heard Sesame Street like this. This CD/DVD combo is a must for anyone who grew up with Sesame Street or currently has a child that loves it.

Highly recommended, especially for public library children's music collections. My son loves this cd/dvd. I grew up watching Sesame Street. This cd/dvd is very diverse and encourgage one to learn different languages. Also it promotes learning through music.

This CD has terrific songs, that can only come from the creative folks at Sesame Street. My daughter and I particularly love the DVD that comes with it, because it is so fun to see how kids in other countries, from Russia to India, get to enjoy the show! I highly recommend this CD - it is much better than lots of the other random kids music out there.

My 10-month-old loves this CD and the DVD - bordering on obsession. Because it's multilingual I feel a little less guilty about letting her watch TV. The DVD only runs about 10 minutes anyway. And as long as the CD is playing when we're in the car, she is content -- no matter how long the trip. We have several Putumayo CDs and a few Sesame DVDs, but this is pretty much the only CD or DVD we end up playing.

My 5 year old daughter first watched the DVD that accompanies the CD and I explained to her what the songs were talking about when they were in a foreign language. She was intrigued and the next day we listened to the whole CD. Now she plays it on her own and sings along even when the songs aren't in English. Nice variety of musical styles.

I am impressed with this cd. My daughter and I both love the music and beats in all the songs. Granted, we don't really know what they're saying, but if you know the Sesame Street songs, then you'll get a kick out of listening to them in other languages! AWESOME CD!!
