This toy doesn't really do much. You take a hammer and hit the balls on one end and they come out the other end. I don't really know why that's suppose to be a cookie factory.
My son loves the ball though. We had to take the hammer away from him. A wooden hammer and 21 month old rough tumble boy don't mix. We was afraid he would hit his 2 month old brother in the head with it. He also dropped the wooden main part on his toe so we ended up putting that up. These are his favorite balls though. They are plastic, not wooden but very heavy plastic, not cheap plastic. He did end up hitting his brother in the head with one of them anyway but we let him keep the balls.

My one year old loves seeing the balls move and these are her favorite balls too. I have my daughter push the balls with her hand and don't give her the hammer to be on the safe side. Well painted high-quality wooden toy. She loves the Elmo painted on the wood and recognizes it from her stuffed Elmo toy. Great buy!

My nephew is a little over 1 year and he absolutly loved this toy. It seems like it would be pretty stupid, but for some reason the balls popping out of one end and rolling to the other really captivated them.

My daughter really loved this toy but when all the problems came out about lead in toys - especially sesame street toys I emailed the toy maker in concern asking if this toy was safe from lead - but they ignore my request and still have not replied back to me after months.

This is a fun toy but getting the balls to move to the other side does not require much effort from my 1&2 yr old.

My 18 month old grandson will be thrilled with this well made toy. Although I did buy one in plastic with similar features, I like the wooden toy the best. I will say that Amazon is advertising this toy incorrectly at $90 to $99....I only paid $19.99 the week before. Something is definitely wrong as no one would pay nearly $100.00 for this toy. Otherwise, great toy, colorful and well made.

Both of my kids love to play this. My little girl often runs off with the balls. The concept is fun for them but it can get really LOUD when they are pounding!!! They enjoy it so much that I endure the noise.

My little girl enjoys playing with this toy. She loves watching the balls go through. The only problem is that the wooden hammer quickly became and issue. It is solid wood and can do considerable damage.

I love wood toys. I got this on a whim to get free shipping. I'm really glad I did. My daughter played with it right away and she was only about 7 months old. She still plays with it now. Her favorite part are the balls of course, which are light plastic. She carrys the hammer around as well. She has thrown the balls and hammer and they hold up well. She stands on the cookie factory part and its fine too. Great product, lots of fun.

Amazon calls this toy appropriate for a child of 12 months, probably savvy to the average consumer's belief that his child or grandchild is certainly exceptional. Well, the box says 18 months, and even that's pushing things a bit. No doubt Francesco Cafiso (the saxophone prodigy who was playing like Charlie Parker on international jazz stages at the age of 12) could pull it off, but it's not a no-brainer.
First of all, there are 6 balls that have to be kept track of. Fewer than 5 won't keep the ball-replacement principle in action. Moreover, the balls are not contained by any track or groove--they have a tendency to bounce off the assembly line and to be chased down by the cat, who doesn't always feel obliged to return them. (Hence, the stingy 4 stars for durability.) Secondly, it requires a well-placed tap to a round object to effect the desired response: the replacement of one ball by another. 3rdly, it requires knowing left from right, or understanding the difference between input and output--not by necessity but by reason or intuition. 4thly, it requires color discernment to be able to appreciate the miraculous replacement of a lime ball by a magenta sphere (come to think of it, what 18-month-year-old knows, or needs to know, "magenta"?). Still, it's a home-spun product (despite the Sesame Street tag) designed and manufactured in a home-spun way (though comparing this thing to a cookie factory is what poets would call a "conceit" if not a stretch). It's fun for the parent/grandparent to play, and it holds the attention of the little one for a good 10 minutes. (More, when she participates in the pounding.) By age two, the child should have it mastered, and it's rugged enough that by the time grandpa gets sent to the home, he'll have all he can handle hitting the magenta ball let alone remembering its name. |
