3.0 out of 5 stars It's ok
My son (22 months) really likes Big Bird, but this show doesn't hold his interest for very long. He likes parts of it, but most of the time he leaves it to go running around. The Baby Einstein first signs video is the one likes before bedtime. They show "sleep" right before it's over and he usually takes himself right into the bedroom when it's over.

5.0 out of 5 stars Our favorite Sesame Street dvd, November 28, 2006
This review is from: Sesame Street - Sleepytime Songs & Stories (DVD)
We first owned this on video back in about 1996, when our first child was just starting to watch videos. She wore out two or three copies of this video and then once our second child came along, I could no longer find it. Thankfully it came out on dvd in time for baby number three because this is the very best Sesame Street dvd we own. It is soothing and cozy and the stories and songs are classically wonderful. Our favorite is "If Moon Were Cookie" but the whole thing is just great. I love the story about the sun and moon. The dvd is hosted by Big Bird and he is trying to show the viewer ways to fall asleep if they are having trouble sleeping. We still watch this dvd all the time, and the oldest child, the one whose favorite it was ten years ago, still sneaks in now and gets it and sometimes watches it before bedtime, using her sister as an excuse. We love this. It is highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great sleepytime video, LOUD ad at the end, December 19, 2009

This review is from: Sesame Street - Sleepytime Songs & Stories (DVD)
This is a really nice sleepytime video with some of the most beloved characters. It is very nostalgic for me because I absolutely loved the "Everybody Sleeps" song as a little girl and it is included in the video. I believe that is the most helpful portion of the video for my daughter who just turned two. We use this video once or twice a week when we don't read a story before bedtime.

The video is hosted by Big Bird and helps to talk the kids through getting to sleep. Cookie Monster, Ernie and Bert, Snuffleupagus, Gordon, and several other characters have a part.

The reason I did not give this video 5 stars is because at the end of the extremely peaceful, restful video that eases your children quietly into sleep is an Elmo add. It literally goes from soft music box player music of the Sesame Street theme song panning back from Sesame Street into LOUD ELMO AD. I was not happy. I try to quietly step out of the room while my daughter is getting to sleep on the "everybody sleeps" song and try to time it to make it back to stop it from waking her up.

Its a love-hate relationship with this video I'm afriad. The video is great, but I wish they'd saved their darn ads for the beginning if they had to include them.

My 2 and 3-year old sons love this DVD. Lots of puppets and cute scenes with catchy songs. Great for pre-bedtime. A really cute and calming DVD. We're very glad we purchased this one. You won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars I cannot imagine bedtime without Sleepytime Songs and Stories, May 29, 2007

Although my husband and I always said TV would not play a part in our 19 mos. old son's bedtime routine, we have both come to love this dvd. It's some of Sesame Street's best, including one of my favorites from my childhood, "Everybody Sleeps". We don't use this dvd every night, but it is a sure-fire soother for when our little guy is all wound-up. I cannot reccommend it highly enough, and I only wish we had bought it sooner.

2.0 out of 5 stars not the same as the original :[, November 9, 2011

This review is from: Sesame Street - Sleepytime Songs & Stories (DVD)
I bought this DVD thinking it would be the same material as my sister and i watched back in the 90's. Yes, some stories/ songs are the same (If Moon Was Cookie, Counting Sheep, Dancing to Sleep) but my favorites are missing! There's no more King Puppet with "I Have A Problem" where his crown falls under his bed and only the littlest girl can reach it, and the "Everybody Sleeps" song is way different too; why change a good thing? beats me. this new one is a downgrade and although it's still cute to watch with my boyfriend as we fall asleep, I miss the good old video I used to watch. I guess i'll have to break out the VCR to see that one..

5.0 out of 5 stars A great video!!, February 19, 2011

My daughter LOVES this video - she is 21 months -- and I have to admit, I do too!!
It's very sweet and has a great mix of bed time stories.
The funny part that my husband and I laugh at is the part where the Count is counting sheep!
He is in Bert's bed!! Okay -- what exactly is going on here? :)
Anyway, a great video and we love the ending part that talks about dreaming of balloons -- so sweet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, calming video, October 26, 2009
This review is from: Sesame Street - Sleepytime Songs & Stories (DVD)
This video is one of my daughter's favorites with many wonderful songs that help her relax before bed. She knows many of the songs and we even do our own version of the "Snuffle Lullaby" dance.

5.0 out of 5 stars This DVD gets played almost every evening, October 24, 2008

This review is from: Sesame Street - Sleepytime Songs & Stories (DVD)
I bought this DVD for our two parrots about a year ago. (They LOVE watching kid's movies!) I can tell it is one of their favorites because they become very animated when we play it. There are several really cute Sesame Street songs on this DVD, but one of our favorites is, "I Dance Myself to Sleep". When this song starts both birds get on the closest perch to the TV set and dance back and forth from foot to foot. One of them flaps her wings. I can't resist singing along when I hear it and dancing along with them. One of the endearing segments of the DVD is a scene with Big Bird where he tells how to snuggle in to go to sleep. He talks about getting nice and comfy and putting your head under your wing and then stops and says, "Well, maybe we're all not birds..." This just makes me grin from ear to ear!

One nice thing about this DVD is that it has the auto play feature which means it will start over on it's own when it's finished. That's always a big plus, not to have to go in and restart it each time.

Children without wings and feathers would likely be even more delighted than the birds with this sweet DVD. The Sesame Street characters are cute and the songs are entertaining. There is lots of music and color all the way through. It's a little bit lively in some parts but not so much so that I think it would keep children awake. Heck, I don't mind watching it and find myself humming the songs at different times. If we ever wear it out, it's one that would be replaced right away.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful wind down, June 17, 2008
This review is from: Sesame Street - Sleepytime Songs & Stories (DVD)
Great, great. We limited our girl's viewing when we gave in at about 18 months. This is safe, quiet, and has real characters and good songs. The Big Bird hosted connecting parts are well done. Everything's low key, just as it should be for a wind down before sleeping video. A side benefit: if you've ever wondered about Bert & Ernie, the opening & closing pieces show how simple it is. Ernie is the one for kids to identify with and Bert is for the elders.
