I bought this for my Elmo-obsessed 19 month old. She's thrilled with the pictures of Elmo that are on the toy, and she likes spinning the block with his picture on it; however, the thrill only lasts a few seconds. The toy is way to heavy for her to lift herself. Two of the picture blocks have upside-down pictures (probably why this toy is on sale).
As she gets older, I'm sure she'll be able to lift it, and she'll have fun recognizing the numbers and letters and counting and making words. The letters are color coded so that the kids can self-check spelling words that match up with the pictures. I think this toy could have made better use of word families so that there would be more word possiblilities to be formed by spinning the letter blocks.
All in all, for a child who is crazy about Elmo, it might be worth the [..] I spent on it. Otherwise, I'd say there are other toys out there that are better suited to help a child learn letters and how to spell words.

I have two children, 4 and 1, and they both like this toy. My 4 year old gets a kick out of making different words with the spinning blocks, and my 1 year old just likes spinning the blocks and looking at the different pictures. I have also turned it over and let the 1 year old use it as a hard surface to put his drawing paper on. None of the pictures on ours were upside-down, like another reviewer experienced. This piece is solid and well-built, and the price couldn't be beat, at six dollars.

I paid six dollars for this on amazon over the summer - it's probably worth about that much. My 4 year old (the recipient) lost interest in it quickly, while my 17 month old plays with it occasionally. Amazon is now selling it for $30 - definitely not worth that much!
