Its tough, absolutily corosion proof, but its biggest feature is that turned one way the numbers stop at 0, and when turning every number makes a positive click. This means that its very easy to securly lock it becuase your always leaving it with all zeros and most inmportantly:
Unlike any other combination lock this one can be opened in the dark! You turn the numbers down, and they stop at zero, then you close your eyes and turn up each dial counting clicks. Try that with the master lock.
Unfortunatly I recently lost it, now I am replacing it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally found Sesamee locks again... NICE!, May 9, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sesamee Keyless Padlocks Sesame Brass/Steel Shackle Padlock (Misc.)
Like others, I still have what was known as a Corbin Sesamee padlock from well over 20 years ago and its still working! I needed a few more of these and could not find them locally. All I could find in the hardware stores was the Master equivalent. That was a mistake. I figured it looked the same, had to be the same... was I wrong. The first Master 'lost' its setting after a week and I had to cut it off. I gave up. Used a regular key lock till I stumbled onto the Sesaemee locks at Amazon. While a bit more expensive than the Master lock 'knock off', I decided to order one to see if it was as good as its grandfather (my 25 year old Sesaamee), WOW.. from what i can see, its just as good as the old one. All the features that are NOT found in the lookalikes are still in place. What made/makes the sesamee important to me?
1. Easier to set combo (you push a small rod down in the opened lock to set it. No flimsy 'set key' to bend/break like the competition.
2. Combination does not slip. the Master lookalike tends to slip its set numbers.. I have found that one to be 1 off after setting.
3. I can open this lock in the dark (you can't with the Master). How? Rotating the numbers in 1 direction, they will stop at 0. You can then feel/count the clicks as you rotate them the other direction. I can open the lock on my shed door in less than 30 seconds with no lights at all (light switch is on the inside). Also, I use reading glasses and to me its easier to feel the combo than to put on my glasses in daylight. I am not one to write a lot of reviews, but was so happy to find this product again, I just had to explain why its such a great item.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best lock made in it's price catagory, May 28, 2008

I run a large facility. We have been using this product for 15 years. We have 30 of them in service indoors and out side at any given time. They are very secure and do protect well. They can be opened easly in total darkness. That is a feature we do use often. One key feature is that the combination wheels lock at zero when spun back words to allow you to open it in total darknes or low light.

We recently had a burglary attempted. With a pry bar and a hammer they could not break the lock.

It is very easy to re set the combination on these locks. It takes less than 10 seconds.

We are very happy with this product and would highly recomend it to any one with security needs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Solid Lock...but you need good eyes, July 16, 2010

I bought 2 of these for the gym. You can set the combo yourself which is great. Combo must be set to either open or close, so you can not accidentally lock it if you have forgotten the code. Only bad things: (i) both of these came with a discoloration of the "brass" (no big deal) and (ii) the numbers are small, so if you uses glasses and come from the pool, it is hard to open

5.0 out of 5 stars Works as advertised, March 30, 2009

This lock works as advertised. I use it to lock my bicycle daily, in all kinds of weather.

Changing the combination was easy, and well described in the directions. And, yes, you do need the current combination in order to configure a new combination. :-)

I did shoot some WD-40 into the lock before putting it in to service, and that did seem to smooth out the operation a little bit.

I bought a couple of these based on the reviews that these were better locks than the Master locks of this type. Although I have owned one of the master lock equivalents for years and it works flawlessly.
My neighbor lets me go into his garage for tools if I need to. To make it simple I gave him this lock and a combination we both could remember. After a few weeks I needed access to his garage while he was at work. I couldn't get the lock to open. I sent him a text message and he replied that it takes several tries to get it open. He said each time the combination is set, push and jerk hard on the lock and eventually it will open. I tried this for about 15 minutes and couldn't get it open so I gave up (at least my hands and fingers did). When my neighbor got home he opened the lock some how, I wasn't there.
There appears to be nothing physically wrong with the lock. The numbers lock into place easily. From the other reviews here it appears that most of these locks work fine but occasionally one of them is bad or has problems as a couple of us have found. The one fellow was afraid to use the other locks he had bought after one failed on him.
My plan is to set the other locks I bought and open and close them daily until I have confidence that they are reliable before I attach one to something that I can't get it off of.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice!, November 9, 2009
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Sesamee Keyless Padlocks Sesame Brass/Steel Shackle Padlock (Misc.)
Nicest combination lock I've owned. I have a friend who can take just about any dial padlock and have it open within 5 minutes without being given the combination. He spent a long time on this one and couldn't get it to open. It was fun seeing the frustration on his face.

This lock has some nice features. First of all, it won't lock unless you spin the combination after opening it. Second, if you lock it and then roll all the dials (descending), they will lock at 0. This allows you to easily open the lock just by feel without having to look at the numbers.

I'm considering purchasing a few more of these locks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product and best combination lock available, August 10, 2009

I bought this after struggling with several of the Masterlock equivalents. The Masterlocks freeze up easily and the number wheels spin too freely if you lubricate them (or are hard to move at all if you don't dry lubricate). I found the Sesame and it is a superior product. The number wheels click with each number rather than spin and they have a positive full position rather than infinitely variable position like the Masterlock. It is well worth the extra buck or two.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, May 16, 2008
I just barely got the lock but I can tell I'm going to be happy with it. I'm in the Military and going to basic soon so I'll be able to test it out more there. The lock seems extremely secure: it has two locking mechanisms-one on each end of the shackle, the solid brass body feels like its strong enough for anything.

5.0 out of 5 stars master does not compare, August 20, 2011
This review is from: Sesamee Keyless Padlocks Sesame Brass/Steel Shackle Padlock (Misc.)
I bought a master lock that looks like this. Sesamee's perks, such as durability, ease of use, ability to open in the dark, and relative security have been thoroughly discussed in earlier reviews, so allow me to explain in detail why master sucks in comparison.

Sesamee has a brass block as a body, where master has a stamped sheet of some metal painted brass-color.
Sesamee wheels stop at 0 when spun in one direction, allowing nighttime opening, master does not.
Sesamee's combination change tool inserts in the hasp hole, master's goes in the side.
Sesamee's combination wheels give a clean click that can be felt on each number, master's motion is much murkier, without eyes I can't even reliably sit it on any number.

In light of fundamental differences between the two locks, and not much being in common other than superficial appearance, I don't think that they should be considered interchangeable.

This lock is superior in every way. I own a steel shackle sesamee, a brass shackle sesamee, and a steel shackle master. The brass shackle one has some years on it and came from a previous boat owner and works fine, but why is steel better? I heard a story second-hand of a sailor whose dinghy was locked with a brass shackle and he forgot the combo, so he spent half an hour sawing on it with a spyderco knife and problem solved. Speaks well for spyderco's vg-10 stainless steel, but not so well for brass.
