This review is from: Sesshu's Long Scroll: A Zen Landscape Journey (Hardcover)
This is a gorgeous book. I've looked at it so often, glad I don't have to go to a museum to contemplate how extraordinary Sesshu's accomplishment is. When you hold this small, nicely textured book in your hands, you can get lost in the painting it reveals in cunning page after page. At times I've felt my mind wander down the ages as I gaze at the brush stokes of this great work of art. Other times, my mind falls quiet. That's the best time.

Reiko Chiba has done an excellent job of commentary. His notes are not intrusive, but rather elucidate meaning from the painting and the man. This book is a precious and sweet gift for anyone who loves art that goes deeply into, and yet beyond ordinary reality. As Chiba notes, "Nature is dominant."
