Though it's listed here as being by various artists, the album here is actually by an experimental group called Climax Golden Twins. Now, with that being cleared up, let's continue. As splendid as Howard Shore's Oscar winning score is (Lord Of The Rings) the real score of the year Oscar should've gone to the CGT who with their reading of Session 9 plunge you about as far into the abyss as any score released in the past 5 years. Heavily ambient, this score takes its inspiration from the mental institution that the film was shot in. It's as if the mentally ill souls who now rest in unmarked graves had went into a studio and recorded their musings on infinity, on endlessness...that dark stream of consciousness is what you hear. I recommend listening to this score with headphones or a really great sound system so you can get all of the intentional subtleties with the sound here. Truly, this is one of the pieces of "music" the cinema has given us and it's certainly one of the best the horror genre has produced in a long while. Listen and suffer well.

If you have seen "Session 9", then you know it feeds on the atmospheric effect that most movies exclude from their experience. One of the tools used to create such an atmosphere was the score. As a musician who enjoys writing "visual" music fit for scoring a film, I tend to take notice of the soundtracks/scores of films in pretty much every one I see. And boy did this one catch my attention! Not relying on orchestrated music or actual melodies to fit the film, Climax Golden Twins -- an experimental musical duo that happened to be chosen for Session 9 (and thank goodness they were) -- delivered quite a feeling through their eerie sound effects including white noise, scratches, and unintelligible synth-like warped instruments. Do not expect any "songs" from this album. You won't be playing these tracks Friday night with your Led Zepplin cover band at the bar. This CD is solely for your atmospheric pleasure. Much like the film itself, the "Session 9" soundtrack will place a feeling of unease in your stomach and a fear of the unknown surrounding your every move. Forget all of those ancient organs blasting and chains rattling, this is true horror in all of it's dread. Just don't listen to it alone in the dark, as you might not have enough courage to get up and turn the light back on. If you liked the movie, you should love this. And if you haven't seen the amazingly under rated psychological-creep-out thriller known as "Session 9", then order or rent the DVD as well!

In a fair world, this film would have seen wider distribution, and been a much larger success than it was. And with that success more people would be familiar with it's terrific soundtrack.

Very different from most sountracks, this score focused greatly on sound design and ambience to augment the very effective setting in the film, and visual images on screen. An excellent blend between Contemporary Classical music, and Industrial Ambient, performed by an experimental duo out of Seattle who call themselves Climax Golden Twins. If you see the film, and like it (or are affected by it) you'll almost immediately search out this CD. And I assure you it's worth every penny.

I'm not certain why Amazon lists this by "Various Artists" as far as I can tell, there is but one artist on here that scored the entire film (the aforementioned Twins) and they deserve highest praise for their excellent work. Let's see more work from them.

I bought this score (based on 5 star reviews) before seeing the film and I was mystified why everyone was raving about it. I thought man what a let down. Then I saw the film and now understand its BRILLIANCE! This score adds a third dimension of sound design to the film and really sucks you into a terrifying visceral experience that scratches chills through your core. The score is haunting and mesmerizing as it takes you back to the world of Session 9. Each and every time I listen to it, I find myself looking over my shoulder, reaching for the lights, and waking up in a cold sweat at the slightest creak in my house. The film and this score are extremely dark and horrifically powerful.

Climax Golden Twins have created the perfect soundtrack to a nightmare. Combining field recordings, ambient score and piano, this soundtrack is definitely something to listen to on a windy, dark, night when you're alone.

People seem confused by why this album was (presumably previously, as it is now credited to Climax Golden Twins) listed as Various Artists. I quick perusal of the liner notes reveals that the final track, Piece for Tape Recorder, was composed and performed by Vladimir Ussachevsky, hence more than one artists, hence "Various Artists."

And yes, this CD is great. It definitely invites comparison to Coil and other experimental/ambient pioneers. Very scary, dark, atmospheric, and psychological. If you're into unnerving "music," this CD is for you.

Everybody that has commented, pretty much says it all. What more could I say? This is really a good soundtrack! I do have one question maybe somebody could help me with...at the beggining on Track #1 there is a lot of static and it continues through the first minute and a half. Is it suppose to be like that or did I get a bad download from Amazon?

This is an amazing CD to accompany an incredible movie. I watched the movie about a year ago, and have been seeking out the soundtrack ever since. I finally got the nerve to pay the stiff price and I must say it was the best forty five dollars I've spent in a while! If you have found your way to this review, you too are here for the same reasons...just buy it and don't look back.
