Great Album By The Future Silver Fox! (Wait, Is That An Insult?),
This review is from: Set Me Free (Audio CD)
The first album Charlie Rich recorded for Epic Records is far from his first great (to say the least) album. This is musically diverse, but also with a few hints of the path Charlie Rich and Billy Sherril would take, with ballads using string arrangements. This made little commercial noise, same with the single of the very same name; the title track only went #44 on the Country charts, but that was his first entry on that particular chart, and it did pretty good considering it had been around 3 years since he last charted (Mohair Sam went #21 on the Pop charts). Again, great record, to say the least, but I'd recommend the two-fer CD Set Me Free/The Fabulous Charlie Rich for more in one.

An early "Silver Fox" classic,

Worth seeking out- beyond the well-known title track, the excllent"H2O" & his cover of "Try a Little Tenderness" alone are worth the effort of trying to find this regrettably out-of-print lp. The rest of it is pretty damn fine, as well.
