5.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy and Environmentally Friendly
A friend gave us a set of acrylic re-usable straws, I had not known such a thing existed prior to getting them. We use straws every day, so we loved them. Eventually they began bowing from washing in the dishwasher.
I looked everywhere for a new set, when it finally dawned on me to try amazon.

Love the design and the idea you can wash and reuse. My only concern is that it does not work on frozen drinks. I made a slushy with lemonade and you could not sip through this straw. These straws should have been made wider! I had to resort back to the plastic straws I had on hand and had not problem.

These straws are great. They are much sturdier than my previous set, they stand up well to dishwashing. They are fun colors, and the fact that there are multiple colors comes in handy if you're having a picnic or something and want to keep track of your drink.
The straws pay for themselves if you are an everyday throw-away straw user. And with no more straws to throw away, they are environmentally friendly too.

Who gets excited about straws? I do! I needed an extra-long straw for a tall water bottle that I use at work, and these straws are not only the longest ones I could find, they are also sturdy, colorful, and fun to share. Yes, I admit it, I love my new straws... :)

These straws are reusable and a little longer than the normal size straw. They go into the dishwasher and are great for taller drink containers. A good investment in the environment as they don't go into a landfill. If you are a straw lover, these are well worth the money and come in several colors that can be useful for identifying personal drinks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Striped Straws, July 28, 2009
This review is from: Set of 10 Striped Reusable Straws by Zak Designs
This is a good, and reusable item. I did find it wasn't quite long enough for what I was looking for and it didn't state on the product description the length, which is 9", and I am wanting a 12" straw for a smoothie container I recently purchased. I did keep the straws, as they worked quite well for some other containers, even though in my line of work, drinking straws come a "dime a dozen".

1.0 out of 5 stars BPA-containing product: BEWARE, don't buy!, April 17, 2010

These are made of polycarbonate, which contains BPA (do a Google search and you will know). Don't get them! Get stainless steel straws instead. Don't let the toxins get into your body...

These straws are perfect. They are tall enough to be used with a travel mug. They wash well in the dishwasher. I have some i have had about 6 mos and used daily, they still look new.
I highly recommend them to anyone who prefers using a straw but hates waste.

(Have not purchased straws yet)

The following information was taken from [...]
"Researchers from government agencies, academia, and industry worldwide have studied the potential for bisphenol A (BPA) to migrate from polycarbonate products into foods and beverages. These studies consistently show that the potential migration of BPA into food is extremely low, generally less than 5 parts per billion under conditions typical for uses of polycarbonate products. At this level, a consumer would have to ingest more than 1,300 pounds of food and beverages in contact with polycarbonate every day for an entire lifetime to exceed the safe level of BPA set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Consequently, human exposure to BPA from polycarbonate plastics is minimal and poses no known health risk.

The use of polycarbonate plastic for food contact applications continues to be recognized as safe by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the European Commission Scientific Committee on Food, the United Kingdom Food Standards Agency, the Japan Ministry for Health and Welfare and other regulatory authorities worldwide."

I wanted washable, reusable, long straws to avoid wasting so many. These fit the bill perfectly, however they are made in China, so I'm wondering what may have been added to them. Also, not sure how safe they are over a period of time. I also purchsed the stainless steel long straws, but find them too "industrial", probably will never use them.
