4.0 out of 5 stars Thank Goodness!
Thank goodness for a novel about the south, that doesn't cast us all as complete imbeciles and idiots! The story is enthralling. I couldn't put it down. When you think you've figured it out, you're suddenly at another crossroad. A central plot with so many wonderful turns and bends that never misses a beat with the intent and heart of the storyline. 3.0 out of 5 stars Easy, like Sunday morning
It would make a good movie or a better book of short stories. Easy, pleasant reading, nonetheless.

For a new writer,S.Alexander has done a great job. Her storytelling abilities are masterful. I look forward to more books from her in the near future, hopefully a sequel to Seth's Pasture.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding, June 29, 2001

From the beginning to the end and back to the beginning again, this is a great book. You are propelled into a world where all that matters are friends and family. Friends are not choosen for their social status or for what race they belong. You are whisked into the lives of the 6 children and their families. I had a difficult time putting this book down. You go with them on their adventures and laugh at their follies. You become engrossed in each family and their lifesyles. You cry when one family member dies and cheer when another down-on-their-luck family seems to find the gold at the end of the rainbow and are able to better themselves. You see how a friends encouragement can improve the self-esteem of another. You are lead on a search for Callie a mysterious woman who lives alone in the woods at the edge of Seth's pasture. When the children fist meet her they are terrified, for their heads have been filled with scary stories of a woman who kills dogs and cats and drinks their blood. Once they find her she disappears again and it is up to them to see what has happened to her. This book continues to leave you guessing right up until the end. Just when you think you have it all figured out you learn something new. ( alot like life :-} )

5.0 out of 5 stars Enchantment and Adventure, September 8, 2001
By
This review is from: Seth's Pasture (Paperback)
Seth's Pasture is a book that invites us into the enchantment of the South. It shares the woven connection of love and kinship while keeping one at the edge of their seat in suspenseful adventure. With all the warmth of its Southern hospitality, Seth's Pasture welcomes us into the Crowly family and the magic surrounding them. It is refreshing to real a novel that is full of goodness.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic!, May 17, 2001

This review is from: Seth's Pasture (Paperback)
I felt their pain, when the already poor Crowly community lost it's only source of income.I cried when little Pete passed away, and laughed until I was silly when Precious and Doby stold the car. For thr whole time I spent reading Seth's Pasture, my emotions ranged from sad to happy, to depressed to angry to totally mystified. Each chapter starts out with a spellbinder that you think you can figure out in a few pages, then wham! A co-worker had loaned the book to me initially. Within a week, the book had been read by most of our office staff of seven. That was amazing, since we had three people who said they didn't ever read novels. They need to do their own reviews, but just to quote the general response, they said. "It was so easy to read...found myself quoting sayings from the characters." We're waiting impatiently to find out when the author will be signing books in our area. Can't wait to get my personal copy. Some movie producer ought to jump at the chance to turn this book into a screenplay.

5.0 out of 5 stars Felt like I was part of the book, May 14, 2001

This review is from: Seth's Pasture (Paperback)
When I first started to read Seth's Pasture, I feel in love with Precious Huddelston. She's such a strong but passionate character from the begining until the end. Loved the southern dialect, and the wisdom from the character "Callie". I'd like to know how much of the book is fictional and how much is truth. I recommend this book to any and all readers.
