5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect with Kids
I love this thing, we put it on our screen door and its great. Perfect little tool to let me know when my kids go in and out of the house.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't Even Think About It!
Unless you have two surfaces where the two parts of the alarm can mate together perfectly, this device is useless. In my case, for example, I tried to use it on a door with the typical rounded trim around it. I don't know of many doors that aren't trimmed out. You could go deaf trying to adjust it, and you won't be able. At least this explains why it's so cheap!

3.0 out of 5 stars Buffalo Tools DWASET 2 Piece Door & Window Entry Alarm Set, June 19, 2009

I received this today and only one of the two sets work, so minus 2 stars. The broken set's alarm works but when the 2 pieces are placed together, the alarm doesn't shut off, rendering it useless. Granted, I only needed one for my college dorm room next year, but having 2 working sets would have been better.

The alarm is loud, annoying and intrusive upon the ears as expected. The black switch on the left piece makes it easy to turn it on or off. Each set requires three small AG13 batteries (those small, round batteries) and are already installed, which is a nice touch.

Overall, it is a good piece of equipment if you get working sets. I got this for a measly $5 so I can't complain, but I get the feeling they give you 2 in order to make up for failure rates.

2.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't Stay On!, August 19, 2009

This review is from: 2 Sets-Buffalo Tools DWASET 2-Piece Door & Window Entry Alarm Set (Misc.)
We purchased this alarm, hoping to use it on our doors and windows. The problem was that it didn't STAY on, so the crazy loud alarm would go off all hours of the night! (Imagine having to search for the fallen piece in the dark, after you got scared like crazy cuz you thought someone broke into your house!) I don't understand where else it would stick on to, if it doesn't stick to painted walls and the moldings. Maybe on wallpaper (which not too many houses have anymore...) The concept is good, but the quality of the product itself needs quite a lot of work.

There is NO paperwork with this at all, just the two pieces of each alarm. You can figure out what needs to be done, but it would be nice if it came with some information (how far the pieces can be apart, how you might mount them on different kinds of windows or doors, what kind of batteries you need) there is nothing.
If you have roommates or small children that wonder at night, these are a great way of alerting you when a door or window is opened, but that's about it. Because you have to turn on and off each one every day, it's not really practical for household security. I think you'd get tired of running to every door and window to turn them on or off. I know I'd forget to do it just when I needed it most.
You can't take them with you, like to a hotel, because you stick them on permanently. But they are not too expensive, so for one or two it's OK. but not great.

3.0 out of 5 stars Original Cost can't be in the $60.00 range, December 19, 2009
This review is from: 2 Sets-Buffalo Tools DWASET 2-Piece Door & Window Entry Alarm Set (Misc.)
Although this product may be at a good price from a sale standpoint, it's seems to be a far reach to think these little plastic battery powered magnets cost up to $60+ dollars regular price (before the discount). I'm a frequent shopper at Amazon, but seeing what they listed as the original price only to exagerate the deep discount makes me suspicious of other products that could be listed this way.

Well for 4.99 what did I expect, 1 of the 2 were dead right out of the box and wouldn't do anything. The other one works ok. Not worth sending back.

First of all, one of the two devices didn't even work, but I went into the deal thinking that for under ten bucks, no matter what, how could I be upset?...and well, that's pretty much how it worked out. The one that did work still does but the double sided foam tape provided to mount it is not of the best quality and it fell off after about a week.

As mentioned in other reviews, you must have a door that closes flush with the door frame and there must be at least and inch of smooth space there to mount half of the device. If you don't, then it just won't work.
I think that IF both devices in my order worked AND the mounting method lasted longer than a week I would have been very happy with the purchase, but, well, those things didn't happen. It is a very very cheap little gizmo and in reality is only worth a couple bucks but it is an inexpensive piece of mind little security device that with a little glue or even brand name foam tape would be totally worth a shot.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good idea, bad design, December 27, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I have yet to find a door or window I can set these up on. the gap between the two pieces is not big enough. The alarm is always going off. They need a bigger magnetic field or something.

Note these types of self-contained alarms are generally available at dollar stores, like dollar tree, for $1.
