Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

The authors explain every aspect of developing an online site with the humor typical of the For Dummies series. In just one chapter, they relay the basics of writing your own Web page in HTML code better than many books devoted to the subject. They also discuss software that creates Web pages, but wisely stress the importance of knowing at least basic coding. Even complex topics, such as the use of forms, building a Web site from scratch on your own server, and the ins and outs of conducting actual business on the Web, become comprehensible enough for the average reader. The authors also show you how to find service providers who will do the things you cannot do yourself.

In addition to helping you set up features such as search engines, forms, and automatic mail responders, the authors also suggest content that can add extra functions, entertainment, and even profit to your site. The enclosed CD-ROM contains a variety of software for useful site creation and maintenance. --Elizabeth Lewis

2.0 out of 5 stars lacks specific details, March 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Setting Up An Internet Site for Dummies, Third Edition (Paperback)
I purchased this book because I wanted to know how to set up an internet site. Although the book briefly describes the aspects necessary, it fails to provide any specific details. As well, it emphasizes Win95 instead of NT or UNIX which is the industry standard. This is only a good book if you're interested in getting an overall perspective on setting up an internet site rather than wanting to know specifically how to do it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Confusing and a Chore to Read, January 9, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Setting Up An Internet Site for Dummies, Third Edition (Paperback)
I recently bought this book at Borders and will be returning it first chance I get. The writing style is very "thick", imho, found it to be a chore to read. Only got as far as chapter 3 about domain names when I said, "no more!"This book is not written for a novice for sure. Don't know who it's written for to be honest, but I'd avoid it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very confusing and for real dummies., January 2, 1999
By A Customer
I think this book was very confusing. It was very difficult to find things about different subjects because the index and the summary didn't give me many choices and information. And the content is only for real dummies. As I have an intermediate knowledgment of Internet, it was not very useful for me. At least the language is very friendly and easy.
