Set the Trap Within!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Setting a Trap for God: The Aramaic Prayer of Jesus (Paperback)
Dr. Errico's book is an excellent introduction to the value and validity of the Aramaic words and prayers of Jesus. Written from a open-minded Christian perspective, "Setting a Trap" (which refers to the Aramaic word for prayer which may mean "to set a trap") helps the reader understand the full meaning of the Master's most famous, oft-quoted prayer. This book is an updated version of Dr. Errico's earlier "Ancient Aramaic Prayer of Jesus" (now out of print) which was published by the Church of Religious Science. This revised and expanded edition, published by the Unity Church (of which Dr. Errico is now a minister) is the best way for people to begin their Aramaic studies. Like all of Dr. Errico's books, it is far more meaningful and to-the-point than the current Aramaic books of Neil Douglas Klotz. As a teacher myself of the Aramaic Gospel message for 7 years, I wholeheartedly recommend any of Rocco Errico's books, along with works by his mentor George Lamsa, as the most reliable texts on the true words and deeper wisdom of Jesus.

Every once in a while, I read a book that teaches me life lessons that are not easily forgotten. This is that kind of book. Even the most common prayer among Christian can be given a fresh light. This book is exciting because it allows one to understand the correct translation with proper context. I believe this author has achieved both. Starting by setting the context, this author then moves verse by verse through the "Lord's prayer," giving food by which one can meditate and quite possibly put oneself in the proper mindset to be able to listen properly and hopefully receive God's wisdom. Every verse is analyzed with the simple goal of setting a proper mindset, attitude, and reverence for God. Although the title of the book can be a bit misleading, alluding to a sense of selfishness, maybe purposefully, one quickly learns that this is not the case, as it should be. Buy it, read it, meditate and live by it.

I am purchasing my fourth copy of this book. I have worn out or loaned or given copys away. "The information is accurate...its what they teach at the seminary..." A minister who borrowed the book told me. I asked why is it not taught from the pulpit. He replied, "People are'nt ready for it"
I challenge you to read the book and decide for yourself if you are ready for it!

Every person that says the Lord's Prayer should read this book. The reader comes to understand how truly spirtual the prayer really is. So much beauty has been lost in the way the prayer was translated that it seems bland after reading this book. I have introduced this book to my family and friends and every one is inspired by it. Read it. You will learn from it.

Essence of prayer,

Rocco Errico captures the essence of the experience of prayer. In a phrase by phrase analysis he teaches the elements of the Lord's Prayer as attunements of our consciousness. Worthwhile for any serious spiritual seeker.

I have heard Dr. Errico say the Lord's Prayer in Aramaic many times. However, this book really helped me learn the essence of Jesus' prayer. Don't let the simple presentation fool you. Dr. Errico brings each line in the prayer to light. It is very powerful. Anyone who says this prayer must read this book.

This is a short read but i must admit, it could have been shorter. At times, i found myself thinking: "Did this have to get stretched out here? He could have minimized wordiness here." That's the bad part. But i will say, it makes up for it's wordiness with a deep introspection of the Lords prayer broken down, line for line. Everytime i recite it now, it means so much more. The purchase of this book is for that reason alone. I give it 4 stars because of how it explained the prayer. It didn't get five because of what i first stated. And the wordines at times makes the read seem dry at times.

Quality study of the original Aramaic "Lord's Prayer." Very readable and useful in group study. Accommodates conservative theology.

First of all I was intrigued by the sub-title "The Aramaic Prayer of Jesus." Very little is written about Jesus and His ministry in the Aramaic tongue. As I read each successive Chapter, I was amazed to find different interpretations of the meanings of the words and phrases of the Aramaic as compared to Hebrew, Latin, and Greek. There seemed to be a kind of gentleness in the interpretations as presented by Mr. Errico. He takes each line of the Lord's Prayer and exposes us to new concepts of what Jesus meant when he prayed the prayer. Personally, as I read these explanations, I felt a closeness to God that I had been longing for for years. I didn't try to analyze the expressions to the point of infinity. I simply read and enjoyed this very new and different view of the Lord's Prayer. I felt that it was $12.95 well spent.....and I intend to buy other books written by Mr. Errico as I can find them.

This was outstanding.....it articulated the meaning of the Lord's Prayer from the original Aramaic. It questions why we say, "Lead me not into temptation", because God would not LEAD us into temptation. Another interesting insight.....Benjamin Franklin's interpretation makes more sense than the version we say today!!
I recommend this book. |
