3.0 out of 5 stars Very good bargain book
At just .99, this book is an absolute steal. It's not quite up to par with the leaders in this genre ( whom I dub to be John Le Carre, Vince Flynn, Tom Clancy, and more recently Alex Berenson, Andrew Britton and William Tyree) but it's still very good. Check it out and support this up-and-coming writer.

I'm reading my third M.H. Sargent book is as many days and not getting much sleep. Seven Days from Sunday and the other two works from this independent author are all well crafted, have memorable characters and many twist in plot to keep your attention. Like a Grisham novel, Sargent sets the hook early and weaves a story that keeps you turning pages until late in the night. Centered around the Iraq war, the context is fresh with lots of action and intrigue. The author does an excellent job of developing his characters, each with distinct personalities that are consistent in each book. While most modern fiction has a central theme of sex, corruption and ample profanity, it's refreshing to find a good clean read.
Grisham was an unknown when "A Time to Kill" was published. I suggest M.H. Sargent falls in the same category. Only marketing and name recognition stand in the way of this author's works on the NYT best seller list.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't Wait for Another Book, March 12, 2010
This review is from: Seven Days From Sunday (An MP-5 CIA Thriller, Book 1) (Kindle Edition)
Fast paced thriller that I just couldn't put down. It was believable and the characters were well rounded. Highly recommend this book. I can't wait for another book with these characters or another Sargent book.

What an exciting read this was. I enjoyed the character development in this well edited & formatted book. To me, a sign of a good book is how fast I rushed through it, the faster I read, the more exciting and interesting it is. I finished this one in record time. Thank you for a well-crafted read.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'd recommend it!, February 12, 2010
This review is from: Seven Days From Sunday (An MP-5 CIA Thriller, Book 1) (Kindle Edition)
This is a wonderful thriller. The characters, both the Americans and the Iraq characters are memorable. The pace is sharp and keeps going. Hard to put it down. I kept wanting to read just a little bit more. Very well done. The author, Sargent, he did a very great job of keeping my interest whether it was what was going on with the Iraqi people, or Americans. Very good.
My 16 year old daughter just read this and loved it. Fun to share a good book with your kid.

I don't even remember how I found this book, but I'm glad that I did. Always happy to find a new author and see what they have to offer. M.H. Sargent writes crisply, with well-defined characters. The story moved quickly, and held my interest from start to finish. I also loved the fact that each chapter was broken down into short segments, which is great for someone - like myself - who regularly grabs reading time in short spurts. Can't wait for then next book by M. H. Sargent!

Wow, what a wonderful novel, full of twist and turns, loved Gonz and McKay so by the middle of the book I felt they were family. It is a must read for suspense, mystery, love and horror. Seven Days From Sunday
How happy to find the sequel is equally as good with all the same people back more or less in another wonderful storyline.
The Shot To Die For

M.H. Sargent is a great writer and I felt as though I was right in the midst of the action, his description of the events unfolding kept me reading far into the night. I want to say more but am afraid I will give away too much of this amazing read. Please keep writing us more stories M.H.

4.0 out of 5 stars 99 cents well spent, June 5, 2010

This review is from: Seven Days From Sunday (An MP-5 CIA Thriller, Book 1) (Kindle Edition)
This was a 99 cent Kindle book. It sounded interesting and got good reviews so I thought what can I lose for 99 cents. I lost nothing but found a very good new author. The setting is in Iraq where a Sunni terrorist beheads an American civilian on TV and threatens a major incident "seven days from Sunday." The story obviously revolves around an effort to prevent this, but also around an Iraqi pharmacist and his fiancee, half-sister of the terrorist, who are drawn into the situation against their will. The story is well written, face paced, and never boring. As with many of the 99 cent Kindle books, there are some problems with spelling and grammar but not enough to distract from the story. There were also areas that I thought were probably implausible with the Iraqi culture, but I am no expert. Perhaps if I were, I would have rated it lower because I do like basic accuracy, even in fiction. Nevertheless, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will definitely be reading more of Sargent's work.

I wasn't sure I wanted to read a story set in Iraq, but from the beginning I was hooked. I found it riveting and until near the very end, couldn't figure out what was going to happen. I downloaded the sequel even before I had finished this one and can't wait to start it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book -- excited to read series, March 30, 2011

I just finished this book last night and am moving on to the next in the series (this is the first). I didn't get hooked in the first chapter, surprisingly, but within 3 chapters I was pretty into it. Mid-book I was reading later into the night than I should have because I couldn't put it down. I found it to be just long enough without dragging or losing my interest. There are a couple sequences at the end near the climax that I thought were a bit rushed over, and a few places where it really isn't very believable, but nothing major. Overall, well written and edited, and formatted well for Kindle.

Some of these cheap Kindle books are edited horribly and format to the Kindle poorly. This is not one of those books. Others have such basic and predictable story-lines it becomes painful and I just move on to another book. This is also not one of those books. In fact, a couple twists I didn't see coming at all. While the book is cheap in price, the author is talented, and I expect the series will only get better from here.

One note: the first chapter is a bit gory, but the rest of the book is not. I would highly recommend you give this book a shot.

For those of you on the fence about buying a book that only costs a buck, I'd encourage you to jump off that fence for this one! As an avid reader of mainstream action thrillers, I too have purchased many, many of the buck "indie" novels that are available on Amazon. None have impressed me nearly as much as Seven Days from Sunday.

Great characters, great plot, great action... what more could you ask for?!
