4.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding resource for both spiritual and secular teachers
We have been taught how to teach incorrectly. This book gives us the basic principles necessary to teach, not only Sunday school, but any subject that someone needs to learn. These principles are timeless and foundational to every classroom setting.

2.0 out of 5 stars The Seven Laws of the Learner
If you like late-night TV salesmen, then this book is for you. Although there are some excellent points made, more than half of the book is garbage. Devoid of scholarship and full of highly questionable anecdotes. As a Christian, I'm ashamed that another Christian wrote a book like this. Don't be fooled. Don't buy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you are a teacher, get this . . . now!, November 3, 1998

I graduated from seminary, but didn't know how to teach the information I had learned. Dr. Wilkinson has outdone himself with the 7 Laws of the Learner. If you want to teach so that your students will walk out of your class knowing how to apply what you've taught to their life, this is a must. Don't just teach information -- teach people what to do with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book for all, October 18, 2004

As someone who sat under Bruce Wilkinson during his college classes, I really wanted to read this book. It's not that I'm a teacher now, but I serve in a project management role.

A lot of the information taught in this book relates to working with people. Some of the information I need is from my technical staff - my role in learning. Some of the information I need is to be taught to the everyday user - the my role in teaching. While "Loving your students unconditionally" may not apply in the real world, it actually does.

I find my co-workers respond better to someone who cares about them then by someone who is just doing the work.

A must read book!

5.0 out of 5 stars 7LL Users Review, March 5, 2005

This review is from: The Seven Laws of the Learner: How to Teach Almost Anything to Practically Anyone (Hardcover)
Three years ago, our church of about 1,000 set about to reinvent itself within our Christian Education department. At about 26,000 feet flying somewhere over Arizona, I was shaken while reading it for the first time. It shocked me into realizing how really boring many teachers can communicate without anyone learning anything...always pushing content while omitting any application or creativity to ensure learning. These principles revitalized my own teaching, and I have used it as our core curriculum for the 15 teachers we have in our education department. Our teachers have come up with some great classes as well as creative ideas in their professional/occupational lives as a result of this book.
Going on year three, we stand by this book as the best-of-class, and continue using its principles weekly. We now have a growing and alive ministry, and can honestly say this book began it all. This book is a "must" if you want to change lives vs. "cover" the material.

5.0 out of 5 stars More "7 laws of the learner" less Jabez, August 26, 2009

This is an excellent book on teaching methodology. The title is a bit of a misnomer - in this book Bruce deals with the seven most important laws for the teacher to understand. I have been a teacher for close to 10 years and have never thought of a lot of these things, much less been taught them by anyone!
The only drawbacks are that the book is way too long (it's about 500 pages, when it could probably be written in 150) and there are definitely points of his theology that I differ with... But all in all this book is fantastic and very worth reading. With the publishing of the "health and wealth message" presented in the Prayer of Jabez series I had no idea that Bruce Wilkinson could write anything good...this book proved me wrong.

I am a freshman in college and am in the Secondary English track. This book is actually one of our textbooks, and it is by far my favorite book! If you want to become a master teacher, read this book and apply its principles. All my former teachers are getting this book from me for Christmas this year!

This book and the accompanying video series was presented to our church recently. Our group consisted of housewives, businessmen, pastors, students, farmers, etc....and everyone learned something! The Bible truths and practical lessons were "right on!" - and applied to every age group and to every walk of life. This is an investment which will be a resource you will refer to many times and one that will continue to "teach" each time you use it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Stuff, October 9, 2008
This book has changed the way I view teachers and teaching. It gets a little flowery and overbearing with the metaphors sometimes, but for the most part this is an excellent book that I will refer back to for the rest of my teaching career.

This is by far the best book on teaching. If you think you are not a teacher... think again. You teach in every aspect of your life. You may be a parent, a boss, a manager, or even a teacher.

His method is not simple and it takes work to perfect. One of my professors from school said of the conferance, "Go to this 7 laws seminar. Go rob a 7-11 if you have to pay for the seminar. Just go."

I would agree. Though I am not advocating armed robbery.

Every teacher at every level needs to read this book. School teachers, college professors, Bible study leaders, whatever kind of group you lead can revolutionize your teaching style. Wilkinson's basic premise is that you haven't taught anything until the people in your class have learned something. What a concept!
