5.0 out of 5 stars Raw Southern Beat!!!!!!!
Two thumbs waaay up for this song! It's southern blues/rock at it's hard driving fineness. I think people will be pleasantly surprised at Taylor's raw talent on this ditty! I defy anyone sit still while listening... a great roll-down-the-windows-in-your-car song and singing at the top of your lungs! Buy it!!

3.0 out of 5 stars It's OK. He has a great voice, but something's missing.
I rooted for Taylor on Idol, and this song certainly seems like it is very well-suited to his voice. But there's something missing. The song sounds "too neat," polished, and calculated. In short, it's missing "soul" (and I was among the soul patrol!). Hicks has a marvelous voice, but the emotion of the song seems really unconvincing to me, maybe because the song lacks...

As the last reviewer said, this is just a taste of what's in store for us on The Distance. I've been waiting a long time for this album. March 10th can't come soon enough.

Who knew Taylor Hicks could rock it out like this?
Well, I did, and anyone who's ever seen him live does. Seven Mile Breakdown is just a taste.

Still love that scratchy-voice, bluesy sound - Taylor does it again! However, can't understand why this album is rated as "Pop"; it's definitely Blues or Rock.

In short, it's missing "soul" (and I was among the soul patrol!). Hicks has a marvelous voice, but the emotion of the song seems really unconvincing to me, maybe because the song lacks a range of dynamics (his voice is at full-throttle throughout the whole song). The great southern roots rockers and bluesmen have that special something, a "world weariness" that is genuine. Hicks may be trying too hard, as that doesn't come across in the song. It's rhythmic, driving, and catchy, but, for me, contrived.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good album. But Not What I Hoped For., September 11, 2009

I fell in love with Taylor Hicks on American Idol. In large part because he so went against the type the show wanted to win and he did win. Big time. He has been treated horribly by the show ever since, but that is off topic here.

I loved Taylor's indie albums, especially "Under the Radar." I was so hoping this album might dip into the magic of that really terrific work. There are some nice songs here, but I have never felt Taylor has had his whole heart and soul, so-to-speak, in his post Idol music. I don't believe the world has gotten to hear the real Taylor Hicks, and this album doesn't really help that situation.

Better songs on this album include the title track, New Found Freedom, and the duet with Elliot Yamin, Woman's Gotta Have It. Wedding Day Blues, which Taylor co-wrote, is great, cynical fun.

I just wish this album were as memorable to me as was "Under the Radar."

If you want something "off" the pop chart, then give TAYLOR a try. Easy on the ears and soothing to the heart...this is a moving CD. Simple and tasteful, and not what you'd expect. go ahead...give him a try. You don't have to tell anyone you actually like it either...BUT YOU WILL!!
