Entertaining and believable.,

Hooray for Christie Golden! As much as Jeri Taylor strayed from canon in "Pathways," Golden sticks like glue to it in this book. Canon references abound throughout, and there's even one delightful reference to Seven's role in the WW II simulation during the Hirogen takeover ("Seven's holodeck stint as a cabaret singer when the ship was under the command of the Hirogen was something of a legend on Voyager. The role had been so out of character for her, it had made more of an impression on the crew than Tuvok's bartender or Chakotay's American soldier.") If you enjoy this sort of thing - which I do - then buy the book!Canon aside, the story is a completely original Seven tale, with a compelling plot that weaves hatred and a desire for revenge around a twist that includes Seven and *real* memories from her time as a Borg drone. These memories assault her so viciously that she attempts suicide to stop them. Ravens also appear, but to learn whether they are good or evil, you gotta read the book!

A most pleasant surprise.,

Unlike most of the Voyager novels, I didn't rush right out and buy this book the day it was released. Contrary to the norm, I am not much of a Seven of Nine fan. I like Jeri Ryan very much, but I just felt the character was drastically over used, and frankly, I was tired of her. But, I am a devoted Christie Golden fan, and am unable to resist anything written by her.As usual, she did not disappoint. This book is without a doubt about Seven of Nine, but Ms. Golden wrote it in a wonderfully creative manner that included all the characters. She has a knack for capturing the essence of the Voyager characters that makes her writing a sheer delight to read. The same is true of this book. The story is engaging, the aliens are creepy, and Seven is interesting and very, very likable. Those are words I do not say easily, believe me. This is a terrific book! Even if you aren't part of the masses that think Seven is the best thing since peanut butter, you'll enjoy this story.

When Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) joined the cast of Voyager I thought she was a great addition to the show. Not unlike other people though, I felt she was way over used to the detriment of the other characters and their development. So it was with this trepidation that I approached this book. However, knowing the quality of Christie Golden's past works I jumped right into the book. What a wonderful surprise, Seven on Nine is an absolutely brilliant book with a great plot line and really good villains. In my opinion, past trek books with insectoid species were not done very well. In this the author uses an insectoid species and does it very well. Without giving too much away, let's just say that Seven of Nine is an absolutely great story that is hard to put down. If you've not read it yet, you need to. Unfortunately it appears to be out of publication already. It's definitely worth a little extra money to order this one through [other sources]! Thank you to the author for this one.

Awesome,
This review is from: Seven of Nine (Star Trek: Voyager) (Paperback)
This book is another one of those Star Trek books that keeps you on your toes. It is dramatic, scary, funny, and has just about any other aspect of a good book you can think of. Next to Pathways, it is probably the best book I've ever read.

Not just Seven,

It's not just about Seven. It has intergalatic consipracy, telepathic aliens, corruption in government, and lots of Ravens. While Seven of nine plays a pivitol role in this book, it does have a full-fledge intriguing storyline. It has some slow parts and some cliche plot points but builds to a nice action packed climactic end. If you're a Seven fan suffering from withdrawl, this book won't disappoint.

A Unique View on a Unique character,
By Barry Nabbs (Southern England, Brighton) - See all my reviews

When I first saw the title, I was concerned it would be a replica of the Season Four episode "Raven". However, I was delighted to find it was a fascinating story with a unique viewpoint on a great character. It helped to create sides to Seven of Nine that hadn't been seen before and helped to form a template for future stories and episodes.

I haven't actually read any other books by Christie before, but now I definately will. This book was very well written, and as with all good Star Trek storylines, it didn't stretch the Realms of Reality too far. All I can say to people who hated this book is COULD YOU DO BETTER?? And I bet the answer is no. If you think you could do better, hey, why not try, maybe I'd get to review that as well! CYA!!XXX

A must for Seven of Nine and Voyager fans,

Wow. This is a must read for Voyager fans and fans of Seven of Nine. Although it's not a life story of Seven, it is partly biogrpahical. I will leave it at that. The writing is mesmerizing. I could not put it down, I read it over two days, about 8 hours. Of course this is biased, I am a fan of the character Seven of Nine, so take my review as you will, Thanks for letting write down my thoughts on the book. The cover art is also very nice as well as the contents inside, a story that gives depth and emotion to a crewmember with a mysterious past. The book is well written, the characters are genuinely interesting and developed, the story flows from page to page with building tension. A must for Star Trek fans.

A good Trek novel....even for a Star Wars fan,
By A Customer
This review is from: Seven of Nine (Star Trek: Voyager) (Paperback)
I'll admit I favor Star Wars over Star Trek, and I say that proudly. The only reason I like NG and Voyager is because of the Borg. When I saw this novel about Seven of Nine, the female Borg on Voyager, I checked it out. I was very impressed, it had a good plot and it showed a side of Seven that was rarely seen, the human side. Also, the suspense kept me reading until it was finished. All in all, it was a great book and I highly recommend it. PS All you Trekkies turn away from the Dark Side and become one with the Force (I always wanted to say that.)

I've got it! IT'S THE TITLE!!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Seven of Nine (Star Trek: Voyager) (Paperback)
After reading the comment, "The title left a LOT to be desired," it suddenly hit me why so many people are so disappointed in Christie Golden over this story. It's the title!!! Have you ever seen a ST novel before that's named after a character? If the next Voyager novel published is entitled "B'Elanna" or "Tuvok," what are you going to expect? (That was a rhetorical question because the answer's obvious, but I'm going to give it to you anyway.) You would expect a novel in which plot takes second place to characters, *especially* to that certain character. A good example is "Mosaic"--most people agree that the "present" plot is way inferior to the "past"--but even this one wasn't called "Kathryn." Whoever decided on the title for this book made a HUGE mistake (and I also really like the "Sing a Song of Sixpence" idea). It was obviously expected to sell better if everybody knew simply by the title that Seven was the star (even read the synopses on Amazon.com and you know nothing new about plot--just that, duh, it's about Seven). So we all expected some awesome revelation into Seven's past or personality. When we got another plot-driven story instead, greater-than-usual disappointment resulted in at least one person throwing this book against a wall (give me a break). To wrap up, just read this novel like it's any other "Voyager" story, because that's ALL it is. Oh yes, if you want to read Christie Golden at her best, go for "Marooned." And be looking forward to that novel that they HAVE to write eventually (although I wish they'd hurry)-- "Scorpion"!!!
