Biography

Jesus I'm a Sinner is the 4th LP by Daniel Bachman. The album was recorded in Rappahannock County Virginia at Forrest Marquisee's studio inside his father's woodshop in May of 2013 after spending just around 8 months on the road.

The first song Sarah Anne is a song for one of his best friends and sister Sarah Anne Bachman, and is also his first full song for the lap guitar. ... Read more in Amazon's Daniel Bachman Store

Editorial Reviews

Daniel Bachman is a 22 year old musician born and raised in Fredericksburg, Virginia. He has been playing what he describes as psychedelic appalachia since he was a teenager, releasing small run editions of tapes, CDs and LPs for the past three years, with a sound that evolved from drones and banjos to a now guitar centered focus. Touring off and on since the age of 17, Bachman has managed to cover thorough ground across the US, sharing stages with like minded folk such as fellow Fredericksburg native Jack Rose, for whom he fashioned the artwork for the posthumous release of 'Luck In The Valley'. His newest effort is the full length LP 'Seven Pines', sprung from a year living and working in the city of Philadelphia. The sound results in a combination of homesick worried blues and the ecstatic buzz of fresh experience and a new life in unknown territory. Familiar and known, but also seeking to access memories from lives past, dead and gone.

5.0 out of 5 stars saturday nite life November 19, 2012

i heard rumor that in the wintertime this dude used to rip it thru the streets of virginia stomping behind a flatbed truck carrying a giant marshall stack and a team of dudes throwing dark chocolate hershey kisses while he shredded on his guild acoustic with a wireless pickup wearing an all black spiked leather union suit and shoes that lite up when you stomp.

In a nutshell-if you're a fan of earlier period John Fahey--get this. Now. Of the several players who came after Fahey (and Leo Kottke) Bachman ranks with (the late) Jack Rose (as one example) of the modern day guitarists, and at times his playing is reminiscent of Kottke's, from his "6 & 12 String Guitar" album (also known as the "armadillo album" or the "Vaseline Machine Gun" album) from 1969. And occasionally from Kottke's instrumental tracks from 1970-1975. There's also comparisons with Fahey's "Railroad 1" album (among others) from the early 1980's.

This album, from 2012, is full of Bachman's compositions. His guitar style is full and dense sounding, yet he lives open spaces in his playing so the music can open up and breathe. And reminiscent of Kottke's first album (on the Takoma label), the guitar sounds close mic'd for a more immediate, close sound and feel. The first tune, "Copperhead", is lengthy, and gives Bachman plenty of room to vary both the tempo and his playing style. "Sun Over Old Rag" (written by Riley Walker and Bachman) is also Bachman at his best. The rolling tempo full of quick, full picking, and a droning sound,is both beautiful and stunning. At 6 1/2 minutes it's over too soon. But there are other aural delights to be enjoyed here--to each his own.

Bachman's other available album ("Jesus I'm A Sinner"), is also well worth hearing. In some ways it's a continuation of what you hear in these tunes, but the time between the recordings has only helped Bachman's playing. But on this album he also uses a lap guitar and banjo, and uses a couple of friends to instrumentally flesh out some of the other tunes.

Heard about it on the radio and found it to be an excellent album all around. No weak tracks, and some very good ones.
