4.0 out of 5 stars Listen to this one one carefully, September 7, 2000

An album that should find most techno fans liking at least some of the songs. There are both slower, more ambient tracs, and faster, dancefloor-friendly songs. The synth grooves and the frequent goodies like the vocals on the first track, the Eastern samples on Secret Samanta and guitar-like synth runs on Who Are You? keep things interesting enough to distinguish Astralasia from the simplistic trance acts that sit on the same loops to the point of insanity. Maybe owing to their heritage (the word mushroom comes to mind), Astralasia does a good job of utilizing the entire staff to keep the listener engaged on all frequencies, and making sure to keep a diverse range of timbre (something a lot of techno bands overlook). Seven Pointed Star is never harsh, always listenable. If you like acts like Juno Reactor, you should enjoy this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Techno at its best, March 20, 2000

This review is from: Seven Pointed Star (Audio CD)
Astralasia puts out the best techno I've ever heard. Driving beats and great melodies combine to make each song hypnotic and different. Haunting, ethereal vocals take this album from great to phenomenal.

I like Oakenfold, Digweed, and Sunscreem, but for pure original techno, Astralasia is (hands down) the best. I got Seven Pointed Star a few days ago, and I haven't stopped listening to it. Hypnotic and infectious. Fortunately, there's no cure for this. If you think you've heard good techno before, think again.

Get this album. You're inner dance demon demands it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Freaked Out GOA Techno Trance, February 25, 1999

This review is from: Seven Pointed Star (Audio CD)
Astralasia's Seven Pointed Star is a mind bending Trance LP. Starting with powerful bass lines and large pounding basslines, Astralasia develop quick skittery synth lines over large dominant chunks of sound and add that hypnotic, melodic background that gives the music that much more power. Amazing dance energy and rhythm, with fantastic textures playing over at superspeed. If you like this you would be a fan of KOX BOX and JUNO REACTOR.

4.0 out of 5 stars Starts off very strong, July 31, 2001
This review is from: Seven Pointed Star (Audio CD)
This CD starts off extremely strong with pulsing sounds and beats. It has a lot of energy and succeeds in NOT becoming repetitive and annoying. Towards the end of the CD, it seems like they threw in the obligatory ambient/journey/experimental tracks that just don't go with the flow of the CD. No problem, though, there's plenty of good music before that.
