Review

- A 2012 Selection of the United Methodist Women's Reading List

"I can't imagine a church of any size that will not benefit from using this book.  It is lively, easy to read, and wonderfully practical.  Get it, and use it!" - J. Ellsworth Kalas, author of Parables from the Back Side

"Green Church is the most direct...no-nonsense argument I have yet seen for the holy obligation to Christian greenness.  This and its companion volume, 7 Simple Steps to Green Your Church, should be 'must reads' for every church in North America." - Phyllis Tickle, author of The Great Emergence:  How Christianity Is Changing and Why

Rebekah Simon-Peter grew up in the rolling wooded hills of Connecticut. Frequent brushes with the wonders of nature, including poison ivy, prompted her to major in Environmental Studies at the University of Vermont.

After graduation, she worked on acid rain studies while also deepening her religious commitments. Later, she was ordained a United Methodist minister and served churches in Colorado and Wyoming for over a decade.

Now the Director of BridgeWorks (www.rebekahsimonpeter.com), she is a sought after speaker, presenter and founder of the popular and empowering leadership program for clergy and laity, Creating a Culture of Renewal.

She lives in Wyoming with her husband Jerry and two furry friends.

We wanted to reduce our Church's carbon footprint and to be better stewards of God's creation, and once we read Rebekah's book Green Church: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rejoice! we needed some help to get started with simple steps that could make big impacts. Although you could make great strides just using this book, her book Green Church helped our Church establish a foundation for our "green" efforts based on Scripture and study. We moved on to 7 Simple Steps to Green Your Church which gave us great ideas on how to form and establish a Green Team, identify areas where we could make the most impact, build a plan and get people excited about joining in. This is an easy-read book that suggested 12 "areas of focus", one for each month of the year, that we could pursue, both for our Church and for our own homes. What a blessing her books have been to our Church and our congregation. And having it available on Kindle is a real plus, making it available to me anywhere and at any time.

Format: Paperback
Sure, I'd love to do my part in Going Green, but how will one person make a difference ... and where to start? This book, 7 Simple Steps to Green Your Church is the answer to both these questions. So...buy the book, then after reading, pass it onto your religious leader or your social action committee to raise their awareness. It becomes easy to begin reaching your goals for the Earth with the help of others with a similar mind-set.
The great thing about this book is that you don't have to know the "how to", only have the desire. The needed guidelines are presented to you in simple easy-to-follow steps by the author. Plus, Rebekah Simon-Peter has documented many inspiring success stories of church groups and individual members - around the globe.
If you are serious about keeping our Earth and its inhabitants intact for future generations, this may be the most important book you'll read this year.

I bought this for someone else and do not know if he has read it. I passed it on to the pastoral staff.
