5.0 out of 5 stars My #5 album of 1999!, March 29, 2000
By
This review is from: Seven Sisters (Audio CD)
I was walking in Fred Meyer one day looking to buy a cd, preferably by a well known artist. Then, I stumbled upon a cd by Meja and listened to some of the tracks. I instantly fell in love with the cd and ended up bringing it home. It has an amazing pop appeal and doesn't sound like anything else on the market today. Here's my opinion of each of the songs: DAUGHTER OF MORNIN' - Usually I like albums to open up with an upbeat song to draw you into the artist's music, but this slow and suddle ballad opens the album on just the right note. LUXURY - One of the best tracks on the album. The first dance track, it uses a lot of synthesizers and is probably the strongest dance tune on the album. POP & TELEVISION - A wonderful laidback pop song that (gulp) actually has a message. Perfect for radio play and is very catchy. ALL 'BOUT THE MONEY - The single off the album, and rightly so, cause it is definitely the most catchy and a highlight on the album. BEAUTIFUL GIRL - A very unique pop song. It sort of has a lounge type of feel to it and shows how different Meja can be. LAY ME DOWN - This reminds me of a Natalie Imbruglia song. It's upbeat and catchy but not the best song on the album. INTIMACY - This is a wonderful ballad. None of the ballads are too overproduced. Again, it has a real laidback feel to it. TOO MANY NIGHTS LATE - This is a great song where Meja tells her boyfriend that he's been out too many nights late. As the title suggests, this is an upbeat song.

DO THE ANGELS HAVE A HOME - The lyrics are very corny but the melody of the song and Meja's angelic voice make up for it. CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE - One of the album's highlights. A terrific upbeat pop song. LULLABY SONG - A very catchy ballad. It will definitely have you humming along. SEVEN SISTERS ROAD - It starts out slow, but turns into a fast song which could easily be the best song on the album. HOW CRAZY ARE YOU? - A traditional pop dance song. Again, this is very catchy as are all her songs. This is a great album that nobody really noticed. Give it a chance and you won't be disappointed

4.0 out of 5 stars Tomorrow's big star!, May 19, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Seven Sisters (Audio CD)
Did you get Ricky Martin's new album? Have you listened to "Private Emotion"? He's singing with a girl. Who is it? Well, her name is Meja. You'd love her.

First of all, I'm very happy to hear that Meja's CD will be released in U.S. Not many people know about Meja I suppose. Well, she's now 30 years old (sorry if I was wrong). She looks much younger and so beautiful, doesn't she? She's very popular especially in Sweden and Japan. Her album "Meja" was sold close to 1 million copies in Japan. Especially, a song "How Crazy Are You?" was a huge hit! I was kinda tired of listening to that song then.

So now, her U.S.version "Seven Sisters" has that song and many more hit singles. It's a very good buy! This is a great chance for her to be big in U.S. Like I said, she's got a song with today's hottest guy, Ricky Martin, and she's got this U.S.-debut-album. Why not check her songs? Don't miss tomorrow's big star!

By the way, the correct sound of her name is not "meja" but "meya". You get it? It's just because she's not from English-language-country. Your friends who didn't read this would call her "meja", then you tell them that her name is "meya"! You can boast of your knowledge!

5.0 out of 5 stars Seven Sisters, Such Sophisticated Songs...! (Corny I know!), February 21, 2000
By
Paul Griffiths (Edinburgh, Scotland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Seven Sisters (Audio CD)
Seven Sisters, is perhaps the definitive album of the late 90's. In my opinion this rates, with, if not ABOVE others such as Alanis Morrissette et al. This was my first sample of Meja, I was uncertain what to expect and like so many other first-timer's I'm glad I did. Every song left me gasping to hear more. Meja's style and vocal quality quite simply left me gobsmacked! Like Morrissette, I was expecting to find at least one track on the album that I disliked, but this was not to be. I bought the album in early '99 in the Phillipines (where I was travelling)and still play it almost every day in Feb 2000! This quite simply is perhaps my favourite album of all time. I hope following albums are of equal quality Meja!
