Book Description

New Quilts from an Old Favorite March 1, 2005
You will be in seventh heaven as you explore amazing alterations to this classic pattern. The Seven Sisters block features seven six-pointed stars. Sixty-degree diamonds are pieced to form the stars, then the seven stars are set together with more diamonds. This hexagonal pattern makes a fascinating theme for the Museum of the American Quilter's Society yearly international challenge. New Quilts from an Old Favorite showcases 18 artistic renditions of this block from award-winning quiltmakers. Meet the winners and finalists as they share their tips, techniques, patterns, and stories, along with colorful, full-page quilt photographs. The Seven Sisters block is bursting with secondary design possibilities. Discover new patterns and applications that make the most of this traditional quilt block. The inventive insights that are brought to life through these interpretations form a valuable resource for your creativity.

Editorial Reviews

Review

This a truly inspiring book. The photos are wonderful. Although full-size patterns are not given for the quilts, intermediate quilters will easily be able to draft their own patterns. A must for any quilter's library! -C. Thomas

About the Author

The executive book editor for the American Quilter's Society, Barbara Smith, fell in love with quilting in the mid 1980s. Intrigued by the geometry of piecing and the color and feel of fabric, she was drawn to the craft. She considers herself blessed to be able to combine her two passions, quiltmaking and publishing.

Shelley Hawkins is American Quilter's Society's Associate Editor.
