Dr. Lutzer starts out by talking about mastering one's desires. In this book on spiritual warfare he discusses the war within and how to be victorious. He distinguishes between temptation and sin. He writes, "a tendency is not necessarily a destiny."

His chapter on greed has some significant things to say about stewardship in general, as well as some solid and practical advice. He goes on to devote other chapters to various sins such as alcoholism, pronography, and occultism. His book is written for the overcomer, the one who wants to please God by conquering the negatives in one's life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Break Free, June 22, 2001

"brucinius" (Streamwood, IL USA) - See all my reviews
This book is excellent if you have ever struggled with any of the topics covered (gambling, alcohol, greed, lust) and want to break free of them. Each topic is covered with compassion for the person ensnared, and clear guidelines are given for getting past your sin and living a pure and holy life. It's very readable. Try other Lutzer books if you like his style.

5.0 out of 5 stars Putting words to the enemy's deceptions, January 29, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book exposes where the enemy tries to invade our everyday lives, especially for those living in the Western Cultures. In order to overcome these battles putting words to them helps significantly. E. Lutzer does an excellent job at exposing the lies of the enemy with no remorse or sympathy for what the enemy has done to our lives. Although the bible is helpful in resisting the temptations to sin at a personal level, it is a struggle to help loved ones overcome those battles as well. This would be a good book to give to those who are struggling in their sin or for those who have been victim to other's sins as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Informitive, October 13, 2009
A book if you want to get an idea of the sickness of sin that grows in some lives. This is a good start and a good book for discussion groups, also a start for a change in others. Sin grows best in a christian's life behind closed doors, would be a common theme for this book, What you are ashamed of but justified to your self, stands strong behind the door of your life.
This book is a start, Like the comment of another review, read the bible, I would suggest a bible commentary (I happened on ones by McGee) opens up the bible on the promises of God, and the life you should lead, forcing your door open to the light dispelling your justifications causing you to repent, or try to reclose your door again.

4) Listen to the Holy Ghost only
5) Stop listening to the countless voices that have you and everyone else on rabbit trails of "works"
6) Denounce the purpose driven life deception theologies
7) Denounce the prayer of jabez deception theologies
8) Repent and get serious. It's the end of the world...
