5.0 out of 5 stars perfect to use for my european lamp
I got an european lamp (220V) which I wanted to use here in the US - and the transformer works perfectly for it - as it converts both ways I will use it when I return to Europe to power my laptop.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not good for Switzerland!
Pros: Not expensive

Cons: Complete failure!

I bought one of these transformers to take with me on a year-long fellowship in Switzerland. I thought it would be fine because it was able to convert 110V to 220V-240V (Switzerland is 230V). When it arrived in the mail, it smelled like gasoline. I called Amazon and requested a replacement, which they...

5.0 out of 5 stars Good voltage converter, April 12, 2007

I bought it to use a Swedish lamp in the US. It reliably does exactly what it is supposed to: transform voltage. The construction seems sturdy and of high quality, and it looks pretty nice too (for beeing a voltage converter). Highly recommended.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not good for Switzerland!, September 4, 2010

This review is from: Seven Star 100W 110-220V Transformer Converter (Electronics)

I called Amazon and requested a replacement, which they sent out immediately (love Amazon!). When I got the second in the mail, it smelled the same, so I decided to take a chance and just take both of them with me. I should have trusted my instincts!

When I got to Switzerland, I found out that the plug did not fit Swiss outlets, so I finally found a plug that would adapt a European plug to a Swiss plug. I charged a phone on it, and it worked no problem. I took that to mean that it would work for my motorized wheelchair, the ONLY reason I went for a heavy duty transformer instead of a simple converter--it should have been able to handle a continuous load over several hours, as advertised. So, that night, I plugged in my wheelchair before I went to bed. When I woke up in the morning, I discovered that I had blown the circuit in my room--not a big deal. I called for help and got ready for the day while I waited. In the process, I used my second transformer to try and dry my hair in another room. A big puff of thick black smoke rose out of the box, and that transformer died. This was totally my fault because I should have realized the wattage was too great for it to handle. However, once security helped me turn the power back on in my room, I realized that the transformer I plugged my wheelchair into was also dead.

I did the calculations 5 times to check the wattage of my batteries and made sure that I bought a transformer that could handle twice the wattage of my wheelchair. The transformer should have worked!! Now, I am stuck and am thinking about buying a Swiss wheelchair (super expensive) just so that I can get around on my own. This is a really bad situation, and I wish I had listened to my gut instinct! If you really need a heavy-duty transformer, DO NOT BUY THIS!!!!

P.s. I bought a Swiss hair dryer rated at 2000W, and it works, so I know that it was the transformer that broke the circuit and not my wheelchair.

3.0 out of 5 stars No proper instruction for how to use this product, January 5, 2012

I want to use this product here in USA for the product I have from abroad (220 v). This product does not say anywhere that if I want to use this product here in USA , the switch should be in Top or bottom position. When the switch is on bottom position, on top of switch i can read 110 v, but what does this mean?

I contacted seller for this issue and was very quick to help me resolve this problem, could have been little specific though.

This is very important as one mistake can blue up this product and other product as well.

Product looks strong and working accordingly the first time I have used. Not sure how it will function over the time.

The setp up works fine.I noticed that the sockets to plug in my electrical items were loose.

I contacted the dealer through customer support and they were very prompt and courteous in answering my call and helping me out with the issue. The dealer said it was a rare problem and that it will be replaced. Great service, highly recommended.

Worked well in Australia. Wasn't too noisy and didn't get too hot. Didn't malfunction and fry what I plugged into it unlike a less expensive converter I used on a trip to Thailand. It's big and heavy, but if you have the room to pack it it works well.

Seems to work just fine. Haven't used it much as yet, but it converts 110 to 220, at a reasonable price.
