I wanted a dual voltage converter which was portable enough, and yet had a high enough wattage to be useful for more than just small appliances. This one fit the bill both in terms of price and requirements. In addition, I've had no problems using it and it arrived on time and well packed. It looks, feels and performs like a solid, well-engineered product.

Highly recommended for those who are going to Afghanistan in support of OEF. I can run a fan and another electronic device at the same time without any problems. It's also cheaper than if you buy an equivalent converter in Kuwait, plus because they ship to FPO / APO, you can order once you get here and not have to worry about schlepping it around during your time at Ft. Riley.

NOTE: the picture of the transformer shows three sockets -- two U.S.-style and one European-style (a socket for two round prongs). The transformer I received had only one U.S.-style socket and one European-style socket, although it did come with a conversion piece that allowed me to plug my U.S.-style prongs into the European socket.

The product is very sturdy and works great. I bought a 50W 110V to 220V converter (step up only) in Radio Shack for about $60. This one is half the price and has MUCH better quality.

We recently purchased this converter for our trip to India. It worked magnificently! I used it to run a hair dryer and straightner, a lap top computer, and for charging Game Boys. It was so nice to have a converter that worked the entire vacation. I highly recommend this converter for anyone traveling abroad.

Bought this to use in Thailand. Worked great, ran my laptop or anything else without any problems.

This transformer does the job. Just make sure the equipment you are using does not need more than about 100-150 watts. (If you need more watts, there are other models from the same company I think).

Also, I don't think this transformer takes care of the AC frequency: if you use it in the US for European equipment, it will give you 220 V at 60 Hz, not 50 Hz. You have to check with you equipment if that's fine.

I bought this because I have cordless tools that I use in Europe and obviously the batteries needed to be recharged. This does the trick and the price is very reasonable.

Living here and working in Turkey with 220 ordered 4 with diff voltage..px on base wanted twice the price. have been using them now for over 9 months and no problems, quit running and no heating. fast shipping

way to heavy to haul to europe and does not even help with US hair dryer or curling iron, we brought to Russia, and threw in the trash and left in Russia, what a pain it weights like 50lb., would not recommend, security even stopped us, not a good deal to bring.

it works fine... but the directions for use are horrible in that they are very confusing. as someone who has little experience with electronics (but wanted to use something i had purchased abroad) i would say that if you don't know what you're doing, don't rely on the directions.
