4.0 out of 5 stars A CD full of bar memories, July 14, 2001
This review is from: Seven Stories High (Audio CD)
Love Seed Mama Jump is by far one of the best bar bands. They offer an electric live show showcasing original material and covers. This album offers the best of early 1997 in my mind. I think I saw them 20 or so times in 1997 and I heard them play the material on this album over and over again. It stayed fresh every time. "Satelitte Freaky" is a great song, that reminds me of the times when the night was almost over. "Blink" is a staple of the live show and gets rediscovered on the new album from Artemis.

The only thing I dislike about this album is the production leaves the music a bit flat sounding. The songs are great and this album, along with the rest of LSMJ catalog, deserves a place in anyone's CD collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Seven Stories High - Love Seed gets serious, July 6, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Seven Stories High (Audio CD)
Although this effort is Love Seed's first all-original CD, it does not have any single track that could be a breakout smash, or rocking live staple. "Live in Me" is a great, mellow, song, and "Blink" is a fun singalong. "Satellite Freaky" is a great opener, and "Messin" a rocking closer. Between are fairly consistent tunes which showcase LSMJ's countrified, percussion driven rock.

I like the fact that the band takes themselves a little seriously on this disc, because it foreshadows the workmanlike nature of the band and their desire to produce real albums on a larger stage.

4.0 out of 5 stars "High" Marks for Love Seed, July 5, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Seven Stories High (Audio CD)
"Seven Stories High" is the first full-length recording (10 songs) of all original music for Delaware's Love Seed Mama Jump. From the first notes of "Satellite Freaky", you can tell this is a "real album", as compared with the previous two LSMJ collections. The track starts out with a delicately played guitar intro, and works into a catchy, driving chorus, which also shows off the bands underrated harmonizing talents. "Blink", a live staple, again shows off the bands harmonies, this time with an obvious Beach Boys influence, which can also heard in the keyboard arrangement of this extremely catchy tune. "Always Love You", another live staple, shows off the band's rhythm section, espcially percussionist David James, while "Live in Me" is definitely one of the prettier songs LSMJ has ever produced, with a slow groove, mellow arrangement, and almost poignant lyrics. "Paint Pellet Privateer" has one of the strongest melodies of any Love Seed song, with a chorus melody almost reminiscent of Duran Duran's Rio, although harder rocking. Unfortunately, the juvenile lyrics don't support what could have been a great song. The album closes with "Messin", a straight up rocker with another catchy chorus, and some great drum fills.

Overall, the album is a strong collection of songs, showing off the bands strenghts with jangly guitars, great harmonies, and the occasional tempo change that bode well for more sophisticated recordings in the future.
