So Much In So Little Time,
By A. Estes (Maine) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sevendust Retrospect DVD (DVD)
It's amazing that when Sevendust released this DVD in 2001 that they were able to scrape together as much material to put on it as they did. At the time of the release, they only had two albums out there, with a third in the oven (2001's "Animosity"), but yet, "Retrospect" captures so much Sevendust information and footage, that it seems like they've been around much longer. This DVD is chock-full of interviews, music videos, live performances, and behind-the-scenes stuff. It definitely doesn't skimp on the material, and covers just about every angle of the band's career up until this point. The DVD begins with some interviews detailing how the band got together and how they got signed, before getting into the exciting "Live & Loud" live special they pieced together as an alternative for doing individual music videos for the debut album. The performance on here is absolutely phenomenal and it's interesting to watch a young Sevendust perform just as well as they do nowadays. Further into the DVD, they get into the making of the second album, 1999's "Home," my favorite part of which is watching them record "Bender" with Chino Moreno (the Deftones) in tow. Another section of the DVD that I really appreciated is the coverage of their relationship with the late Lynn Strait and the band Snot. The guys in Sevendust show lots of love, and have plenty of stories to tell, as well as the making of "Angel's Son," their contribution to the "Strait Up" tribute album. In addition to all this, we are treated to the four music videos they had at the time: "Denial," "Waffle," "Angel's Son" and "Licking Cream," which wasn't released in the U.S. Also, we are given two TV appearances -- "Waffle," performed on Late Night With Conan O'Brien and "Angel's Son," performed on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno (with Mark McGrath of Sugar Ray sitting in on guitar). Another moving performance of "Angel's Son," captured at the Worcester Centrum is included, as well as "Rumble Fish," from the infamous Woodstock 1999. There are a few other surprises sprinkled in between, and overall, this release is full to the brim with content. Leave it to Sevendust to never leave us disappointed. Surely by now they have even more stories to tell, and hopefully they put another DVD just as good as this one out in the near future. As for this release, if you love Sevendust, you need this.

A look inside of the artistic views of Sevendust,
By D.W. Williams "Dave" (Pittsburgh) - See all my reviews

This entire DVD kicks a** and is well worth your money if you are a Sevendust fan. It was released shortly before Animosity came out, so the focus of the DVD is mainly on the first two albums: Sevendust and Home. But, considering the aforementioned, I'm surprised with how much footage and energy Retrospect could capture. Obviously, all the live footage is insane. They play songs like "Black", "Too Close To Hate", "Rumble Fish", "B*tch", "Angel's Son", you name it. There are two television performances: "Waffle" on Late Night w/Conan O'Brien and "Angel's Son" (feat. Mark McGrath) on Leno. Retrospect goes behind the scenes of the recordings of the first two albums, giving you a deeper look into the creativity of this brilliant band. There are also four music videos: "Denial", "Waffle", "Licking Cream" w/Skin (this is an international single; it never made it to the States) and the spine-chilling "Angel's Son" (featuring cameos from members of Snot, Sugar Ray, System Of A Down, Limp Bizkit, Kittie, Disturbed, Shuvel, Coal Chamber etc.; as well as Lynn Strait's mother and girlfriend). On top of this, there are interviews with each band member scattered throughout the depths of Retrospect, along with a preview of the Animosity record. Like I said, if you're a huge Sevendust fan, or you own one of their records (excluding Seasons), this is definitely a must-have!

Love this DVD....Love Sevendust,

Ive been to several Sevendust shows and they are without a doubt thew best live heavy rock band. I cant explain the energy these guys give off. Anyhoo, this DVD is just great. You can view three concert clips, two tv spots, several music videos, watch the complete "live and loud" concert from a few years ago, or watch the whole "retrospect" feature that runs the length of an average movie. You get to know the guys better. You get to see them golf. You get it all. It doesnt really touch on the newest (and best) album animosity but thats cool. I love it.

If you are a true Sevendust fan, you will love this DVD!!! The only thing it is missing is music from Animosity. All 3 of their CD's are incredible and this DVD catches them in all of their action (video's, concerts, tv appearances, etc). Sevendust is the the new wave of the future!!!

I thought this was a great DVD. It got behind the scenes of Sevendust and their writing process. It has the band's thoughts on the band, has every video released and even a video never released in the US. Though this DVD was made before the third CD, Animosity, was even finished recording, they did a great job on letting you know enough to make you buy it without giving it away. I think any Sevendust fan should have this in their collection.

More bands need to be like this,

I want to start off by saying that I'm only a marginal Sevendust fan, I only own their second CD, but I have seen them live a few times. I'm not a crazed superfan, but I love this DVD. It really captures the full experience, great videos from Live and Loud, great extras like Angel's son, and more. Really, I don't think any band has had a more complete DVD out on the market. I hope that when Papa Roach puts out their DVD later this year, it's something like Retrospect. I love concert videos, and this has plenty of them, but it gives you quite a bit more. This is in stark contrast to Powerman 5000's CD, which is really quite useless as far as I'm concerned! But this DVD has it all, without a doubt, pick it up if you even somewhat like Sevendust, it IS worth it!

Stunning,

I just saw them last night in Atlanta, Ga (11/20) and the show rocked. I'm not a huge fan of Sevendust at all, but I believe I may become one. I have seen them twice now and bought the DVD at last night's concert. I spent all day watching it and it captures the content of the concert beautifully. It has so much to offer and my question is...why don't other bands put DVD's out as cool as this one? BUY THIS DVD....even if your not a fan...BUY IT. You'll love it...I promise.

Why Sevendust?,
By
This review is from: Sevendust Retrospect DVD (DVD)
Well,
First off, Sevendust are an overall solid band with very good music and lyrics. I say "yes" because like all band movies it takes you to "meet" them so to speak. If you're a fan then by all means. I thought it was a really great DVD. Live proformances, interviews, videos, and much more. One Reason 1. If you wanted to know more. This is perfect
